All crap! Nuthin protects you better than a pair of sandals, some shorts, a tshirt and a little prayer!
Dear Lord,
Watch over me and my family of motorcycles as we go into the streets. Protect us from the four wheeled demons. Make us seen so we will not have our life taken by someone not paying attention. Keep us from harm. Let it be known, "we are coming". Watch over us as we wheelie down the streets and highways. Forgive us for the laws that we break for it is only out of fun that we do so and not to harm anyone.
Dear Lord,
Please protect the police and highway patrol in their pursuit to uphold the law. Give me the courage to accept the penalties for my own actions. Watch over the injured or sick and help them to a speedy recovery. We know that we are
unworthy of all the gifts that you give us, but we pray these things in your name.

I absolutely love my sidi vertigos. They are zip closure (quick) and even have a
vent on the outboard side. very secure and durable. I carry other shoes if I need
to walk a lot at my destination. If I was in an office environment I'd leave a pair
of shoes at work. but that's me.
Good, solid, secure boots are a VITAL part of your riding gear! |

I have been wearing for a about 2.5 years and riding on them for a little over a year and they wear great. The only issue is that over time the shifter will begin to break the leather down some.
I removed the metal plate on the heel and the one on the front, just not to my liking.
They are made by Wolverine.
Of all things they were a B-Day present from my parents because they know how much I like flames.

I've been wearing boots made for motorcycling since a friend got hit broadside in a 45-50mph crash... right in front of a group of us. We damn near killed the little "my daddy's a lawyer/politician" punk... 'Nother story at another time. Anyway, she was wearing HD boot/sneaker things that are a 1/2 boot, light weight, sold by HD. You'd figger it was made for riding. No. They're made and sold for walking. Says so on da tag. Many riders assume that if it's advertised in a m/c rag or sold in a m/c store, it's good to go (on yer body & bike). Check the fine print my friends. I currently wear Daytona Roadstar GTX Touring Boots. In and out ina flash. You can't yank 'em off. Waterproof. Armor. I have a spare pair of shoes under the desk at work for the switcharoo.
Wearing ANY good quality m/c boot is good. |

"GBX makes a really good pair of riding boots. They have adjustable straps up the front. You make them as tight as you want, then unzip the side to take them off and on. I had a pair for about 6 years, then retired them to yard duty when I bought my Buell Boots. Yea I am looking for another pair of GBX's."
Same here... great boots for street riding. My Zippers broke at the point where they bend for the ankle. A quick plastic YKK zipper replacement should fix them right up.
Too bad I need a 10.5...

Daytona's are a great boot, for a hefty price. I also like the Sidi's, any of the vertebra boots are great. Be sure to try them out with the gear you normally wear to check fit on the calf, and how easy they are to pull on/off. |

I would personally go for something with steel toe caps and ankle reinforcments... who cares if they're breathable as long as your feet don't look like this!

my Sidis are so comfortable I wear them all the time regardless...I usually keep a pair of shoes at work or bring a pair with me.
i want to make sure my feet don't end up looking like that picture...ouch!

These, or their analog are the way to go. No matter how short, or long, the ride.
Fashion boots are like fashion jackets. They offer No protection.
H-D lifestyle/fashion clothing might as well be labeled "will detonate on impact"

Aerostich Combat Lites made by Sidi
Once you get past all the crying from breaking them in, they are great boots.

Eric, I love the vertigos. The calf adjustment is much nicer than the vertebra 2's I had before these.
It is fast, and requires no tools. Just a twist of the mechanism on the calf of the boot.
For size, I have a size 10 1/2-11 "D" foot and the size 45 sidis fit me perfectly. The calf size is
large for a standard boot, but that is because they are designed to allow your leathers to be
tucked into the boot.
I don't walk as much as I used to, but I have put several miles on the similar vertebras before
I got "gimped". These boots are a little stiff for long distance walking. they have to be in
order to protect your ankle in a crash. Your legs will be a little sore the day after the first
time you ride to the mall and walk around for a few hours because you were walking "funny".
Like anything, you will adapt to it after a bit, and hardly notice assuming they fit well.
The vertebra plates over the achilles tendon area can squeak when dry also. I use a bit
of either plexus or honda spray cleaner to stop the squeaking.
Awesome boots. I gave my vertebas to my brother (diablomichael) and he is using those for his
race boots. The Vertebras are good, but the vertigos are even nicer. |

I got some Alpinestars SMX Plus boots. They are great for riding but make a lot of noise walking around and my feet get sore standing in them after 3 hours. They are made for riding after all. Worked great when I had my lowside last week.
I also have a pair of Icon Motorhead boots for going out some place like the movies, mall, party, etc. Not as nice as the A* but much better for standing and walking. |

thanks brian!!! perfect..just what i wanted to know as i have the same size feet also. size 45 is the way to go then. much apreciated..will be ordering today then. i was skepticle on the size as i have not tried them on and didn't want to have to return them for any reason.i was going to PM you right before you chimed in.since you always push the gear i figured you would know thanks again! |

My wife just bought a pair of these. She says comfort is a plus. She also says they are perfect in the sense that she doesn't have to change into uniform shoes when she get there.

The Diadora's at MC closeout are great. I am working on my second pair, the first lasted 30k miles or so. they have a zipper, and two velcro straps. My cats get hair on the velcro, but the straps themselves are just fine. They do have plastic protectors at the ankle, but not as serious as racing boots.
they are amazingly comfortable for walking around. I wore them to homecoming and the race (even got me and my girlfriend on the bike in fuell this month) and they are great for all day comfort. |

Those Icon field armor boots look cool, but I wonder how well they'll hold up in a crash.
Their jackets do ok, but their gloves don't. I've heard of seams ripping out during "normal"
street riding use. Not a good thing. |

The boots seem really well made. Hopefully I don't have to find out how they'll do in a crash. I actually have a Crest Jacket and a pair of ICON gloves. I really love the jacket but the gloves don't seem like they will last too long. My cousin had a pair of ICON gloves. they were torn to shreds from "normal" riding. |

The Icon Field Armor boot is built a pretty sturdy boot, but I have a question. How do you get accustomed to not being able to feel the brake or the shifter (because the boots are built very stiff)?
This was the only reason I did not but the Field Armor. |

I have a pair of Alpinestar GPS3 I like pretty well. I believe they have been discontinued for a newer style, so you can pick them up pretty cheap at most on-line retailers. |

I have been using a pair of Aerostich Combat Touring boots for about 7 years now. I have used Alpinestars and Oxtars as well. Both were great but if you want super protection the Combat Touring boots are the way to go. I have used them on my CBR929, KTM Duke II Supermoto and my XB9SX. They have worked great on all three bikes. |

I wear a set of Dr Martins for one reason. They have a patent on their oil resistant soles. I have found them to be the only boot that doesn't slip in oil, or on road paint (like crosswalks).
I had a scare a few years ago where I put my foot down, and my foot slipped on the paint. I nearly lost the bike.
I wish Dr. M made something with a little better ankle protection. |

I bought some Sidi Vertigo's also... great boot great fit! Corporatemonkey, I also use my Doc 8 holes also unfortunately they suck since moving the factory to china. (Glad I have 5-6 pair!)

Sidi sells a "budget" boot called the b-1 that is basically a vertebra, except some of
the sliders are not replaceable. This could be a way to go if you want sidi's but are
trying not to break the bank. ebay is also a good source if you shop carefully, but
there are not returns if the size is not quite right.
I know it can be tough to lay out the cash for this stuff, but they really can save you
a huge amount of pain and suffering.
Remember that a pair of the top of the line sidi vertigo corsas cost a lot less than
even just the first hour of an emergency room visit. You don't want to hobble for the
rest of your life because you saved yourself $300 by not getting good boots. I still
have my left foot/ankle/calf because of sidi boots. they have a customer for life. |
