Looks like a nice place to go riding. http://gettingaroundgermany.home.att.net/zeichen.htm http://gettingaroundgermany.home.att.net/zeichen.htm#symbols
I can see this on a t-shirt someday, and the text modified slightly:
quote:End of all restrictions This sign cancels all previous speed limit and passing restrictions; however, the general speed limit applies
I'll let someone else come up with the modified text. |

The rule the polizei use is: Go as fast as you wish in these areas, yet following a common sense guideline: Don't endanger others needlessly Don't drive too fast for conditions Know your limits, as well as your vehicles.

The autobahn's not the wild wild west -- pre insurance regulations it was a race track. If you wad one up and you're exceeding 130KPH your insurance isn't going to just hand out total value. Diminishing returns for excess speed -- that very subject is address for 2 or 3 days in Fahrschule. American's are insured differently, quite differently, due to SOFA agreement. That being said I do miss a quick blast from Mannheim to K-town for some Popeyes and even better is K-Town to Jen's back yard (Spangdahlem, Bitburg, Prum.) Get up in the Eifel and you're in The Buell-zone. G2 |

BD- I'm actually just past K-town... I live inside Landstuhl (exit past K-town). Get up in the Eifel and you're in The Buell-zone. What do you mean by this? And yes, we are covered differently under the SOFA. When searching for autoinsurance, the provider asks what country... (USAA)... and did the prices ever jump since I am in Germany. My wife and I pay 230$ for full coverage on 1 motorcycle / 1 car, and liability on another car. So 3 vehicles, 2 full coverage, 1 liability for 230 USD. Not bad... but still expensive for us. Lets face the statistics ( read: facts) about crashing on the autobahn. If I wreck on the bike... I most likely won't be coming home. I don't drive on the autobahn with the bike for this very reason, I don't want to get plowed over from someone flying by. If I wreck in the cage... chances are still very bad for my return home. Forget hospitals and physical therapy .. we've lost many a people due to crashing on the autobahn. Note: Crashes don't happen very often, but when they do they make up for inconsistency by usually taking lives. You'll be pleased to know that a few months ago, HOOTERS opened up in neurnkirchen. The first one in germany, probably the only one too as the germans don't understand the concept w/ the girls. Only 20 minute drive away (autobahn), and it actually tastes like home. Kyle, Badweb has a sponsor in the Eifel,,,Jens and Hillbilly-Motors Motor's are in the Prum area. Once you get north of Trier, and in the Eifel/Schnee Eifel you'll find roads that are so very Buell friendly. The only place I've ever been that is even close to the Carolina mountains. Once they closed Bitburg they turned all the flight lines into,,,,don't know what you'd call them but they bring their cars and bikes out there and run them WAO. I don't know what days you can run the bike -- I can find out if you'd like. I would highly recommend that make a day trip up that way. Got to Spangdahlem, gas up, turn right out the main gate and you can't go wrong -- 10KM from the front gate, in a very indirect fashion, you'll find Zendscheid. I could probably score you a great wurst and some Bitburger Aunts, uncles, cousins,,,place is full of them. Since you're in L-stuhl do you frequent Bruchmuhlbach HD? A good bunch they are. Trier HD is 'ok' but not as in tune. We can probably get you together with some locals if you'd like -- I think our American Buellers have already returned to CONUS. G2 |

Greg, I've heard of the closed flightlines, they are popular among certain drag racers on base. I think we currently have an undefeated camaro or firebird that my friend drives. For a dealer I go to HD Rhein-Neckar GmbH, which is where I had to pickup the bike from when it arrived. I favor them because they have almost as many Buells in there as they do HD's. I cannot speak for their service since I haven't even had my 1K done yet, but I have to schedule it soon( I am at around 700miles). Bruchmuhlbach HD Where is this located by? I haven't been there. My dealer is a good 20-30 minute ride away (autobahn), and even longer taking the twisties. I'd like to get together with some more Buells, as I only ride with R6's. But I do not even come close to pushing the envelope. I can't find a clear/smooth road to inspire my confidence of leaning more, so I usually don't go flying around anywhere.

You must be rolling along A6 pretty good to make it in 20 minutes :-) That's a sweet slab. You're in Landstuhl right? Bruchmulbach is about 10KM from you,,,,right off of A6 heading towards Saarbrucken/France. Take the Bruchmuhlbach/Miesau exit,,top of the ramp go left crossing the bridge,,,first left down in to some kind of little business park and the they'll be on your right. You need to get in touch with Jens at HillBilly and make yourself a roadtrip to the Eifel,,,oh yea. Anything I can do to help you just let me know. G2 |

Yeah... moving at a "moderate speed" I'll print your post out and throw it in the tank bag and try to find the dealer you speak of tomorrow. Thanks alot, appreciate it.

Greg, Followed your directions this afternoon... ha, that left after exit should have been a right, then the first left, then another left. Regardless, I found it; asked if they serviced Buells... since they had nothing but HD stuff, and the lady said "not unless the warranty is expired". So I think I am going to stick to the dealership I mentioned. Since you seem in-tune with the area... are there any Greek eatery's around here? Found one in Einseidlerhof, but they aren't the best. Have they moved the shop in the past year? Makes no difference,,,,just curious. I'm very 'in-tune' with that area. I'm not a big Greek food fan, but my wife is, so we used to frequent a couple different joints in Frankenthal so you're looking at a drive,,,,first exit past the Rhein river off of A6. Since my first set of directions didn't work so well you may want to use mapquest. Do you like chicken wings? Wingerz on Funari (Mannheim) has the best chicken wings in Europe (assuming they're open?) G2 |

Not a BIG fan... but may make for an interesting trip. As far as the dealer moving I am unsure, they were 2nd to last complex on that little industrial park- you only messed up 1 turn, the first one. AAFES is having a best bike contest 3 June so I might give'er a shot, after I find out what the prizes are as it's a HD Dealer/Show. But I haven't seen another Lightning in a long time- maybe I can win their hearts...

My directions were wrong from the first turn? Sounds like I was sending you from the K-Town side (which was my intention) and you were coming from the Saarbrucken side In which case you'd go right at the exit,,,,,but I'm guessing. G2 |

Just the first turn was incorrect, all the lefts besides the first were correct. I was coming from K-town. You have a dampener on your bike? I don't see what all the fuss is about, I can ride the autobahn with no problem, if a dampener smooths it out even more I might as well be driving the car.

If your suspension is setup properly, tires inflated to spec, you'll be fine -- IMHO -- without a damper. There's some big fans of them and some that say they're a band-aid for an ill handling bike. I honestly don't know because I've never had one and I've never had a tank slapper on one of my Buells. Email me the off topic questions so we don't clutter up the topics,,,,that's my fault to: all.
