Sounds like the speed sensor died. It mounts in the top right side of the case above the sprocket. |

The dealer here had one in stock. I think it was $50. The good news is that the part number has been revised twice. Hopefully that means the new one is both new and improved. |

I went without the speedo for a year when mine failed. Losing the odometer and trip meter makes maintenance intervals guess work. It was very nice to regain the indication. Well worth the cash. |

Does the odometer still work? I don't worry too much about how fast I'm going, and I can generally tell by what gear I'm in and how the vibrations feel. You could go with one of those digital displays. |

Do the dummy lights work? If so - its most likely the sensor. EZ |

Sometimes you have bad luck. I got a Western Digital 80GB hard drive a while back that came with a rebate. I had to replace it twice, under warranty, before I even got my rebate check! |

Could be a wire/plug problem going to the sensor, the sensor itself, or the speedo unit. Cheapest thing to check is the wires - move wires around to get a look at every inch, looking for a cut or rubbed thru spot. Unplug connectors and look for pins & sockets that have gone down inside the housing or are messed up in some way. You could run the bike in gear with the wheel off the ground and jiggle the wires and watch the speedo for activity, or just jiggle away and then check the trip meter to see if it moved. You could use an ohmmeter or continuity tester from speedo plug to sensor plug to see if the juice gets thru. If you can't find trouble with any of that, then change the sensor. Maybe you know somebody with a Blast or XB that would let you borrow one for testing purposes? If replacing the sensor doesn't fix it, then hey - you've got a spare sensor! If replacing the sensor fixes it but it fails again, then you may have some other issue. If replacing the sensor doesn't fix it, then you could try a speedo from ebay - you could sell your spare sensor to help pay for it! |

&#@*%!!! now mine has quit working! I checked the cable from the sensor and bypassed the '00 pulley recall recalibration module, but no luck. I mostly ignore posted speed limits and just ride at the fastest safe speed allowed by conditions ahead of me, so I don't mind the speedo not working TOO much... but not having a functioning odometer really bugs me! |

I really wish my speedo would have been working when the sheriff was behind me running radar. I wonder if I can pass the bill over to buell |
