anyone thought abt shaving seat foam &/or seat unit & also opening up air passages to rear cyl on seat unit>

i was considering making amould of existing seat & modifying it for track purposes .. less foam .. lower body position & narrower waist - like new gsxr's - make it easier to get lower CoG for turns.

also planning on making mould for full fairing .. i know we can buy them, but i am a creative guy .. chicken wire & papier mache & create a nice & functionally air-ingesting fairing.

i think all fairings for xb's are in their infancy.

any thoughts,

So funny you should mention that, mine;(seat), was done first day, over 12k ago, like it a lot better, have done same on all my race bikes, bought a second one off e-bay, shaved alnmost 1-1/2" off, really helped to get into the corners better,have the stock one for long rides,just did the same to my r6, works much better!

The reason the rr fairings are so different from the r full fairings is because
aerodynamically the fully faired r does not have as much of a top speed advantage over
an unfaired bike as they thought it should. The fairings (sharkskinz or sebimoto)
seem to be more of a styling exercise, where the rr fairings were designed by Erik,
over this past christmas, in the wind tunnel for a lower coefficient of drag.

You are correct, there is room for improvement over the available full fairings,
but you'll have a hard time making them more aerodynamic without wind tunnel time.

I assume you are going to go for a styling exercise, similar to airtech's project bikes.

brian .. yeah & no .. definitely NOT abt to get into windtunnel, but DO have some physics & fluids/airflow knowledge, a book w/ aprilia's engineering/design intel & my own 20 odd years of graphic design knowledge.

so, styling married to commonsense & solid, reasoned empirical design motifs.

i just noticed immediately from the race fairings for xb's that they were designed for i-don't-know-what .. eric's are so ungainly as to be totally embarrasing -i immediately took to redesigning it as soon as i got a copy of brag mag ..

i have several concepts, based on bservations from motoGP bikes .. which bear little resemblance to street bike stylings .. esp. front on .. motoGP requires FAR greater frontal area to defeat air, but not in as ugly a way as eric managed

sorry eric fans, but the man ain't the last word in hip styling (which IS important from a sales perspective)

anyways .. i finally have a solid connection for assisting me in creating the body work & a working track appreciation w/ which to do some studying

this will be long term, so bear w/ me for a bit.
