Does anyone have a Vance & Hines on their tuber? I've got a 96 S1 with a SuperTrapp that I love. Unfortunately it's coming apart at the mounting bracket. I don't care much for the carbon fiber look and I don't see how this system fits an S1. Any opinions? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-VANCE-HINES-SLIP-ON-MUFFLER-BUELL-S1-LIGHTNIN G_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35573QQihZ017QQitemZ270002415104QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZ WDVW |

I have one on my '02 S3T. I like it. Sounds good...not loud, but good. I think if I had to do it all over again, I would get a D&D...Louder (I Like Loud) and doesn't need the re-packing that V & H does, IIRC. Mine is NOT a 2 piece...I don't know if that is because mine is a FI bike or if the pipe is different or what. It looks more like this (except mine is Stainless Steel) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Vance-Hines-SS2R-Carbon-Fiber-Buell-Muffler-16601-NEW_W0QQitemZ4603690531QQihZ002QQcategoryZ35573QQssPageNameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Somone that knows more than I will chime in, I'm sure... The 2 piece inlet is for the 2" collector header found on most pre-99 models. From what I can gather, this V&H is supposed to be troublesome... do a search to verify. I've had no trouble at all out of my 1-piece 2.5" V&H. My SS2-R muffler has an aluminum body with a chrome steel inlet and an aluminum endcap with a steel outlet. |

I don't know. I have had mine on for about 4k miles, the problem is I don't know when it is needed or how I would tell that it is needed. Of course I haven't researched it very much either... |

I put 20,000 miles on mine before I repacked it. It needed it really badly, in retrospect. It was a bitch to repack too. |

I've got the same pipe as DJ. It's alright, too bad about the Supertrapp, I switched from a disked pipe and miss the low end power the back pressure gave me. The V & H is holding up well, been on for a year and a half. It was a real pain to fit, had to refab the rear hanger, I don't know if that's par or I might have had a special case... |

Speaking of V&H...i just took mine off 2 days ago because the rear mount broke off. was going to take it into work and weld it back on. decided to take it apart and check the guts. no guts. whatsoever. in fact only about 4" of the little metal screen that's suppose to run through the middle of the whole can was left. I have no idea what happend but maybe this is why my bike has been running weird. Think i'm gonna try to find a D&D system. |

I'm going back to my old V&H. I've never had any complaints about it. It sounds good and the power is pretty good. I ran a Force exhaust for a year or so and I really missed the low end. The novelty of a loud pipe has finally worn off. And Yes, repacking it does suck. I would think the packing cuts down on the vibes, which could help curb mount failure. |

Using a V&H on my '97 S3 for 3 years, works well for me - just loud enough to be "less than civilized", echoes off buildings in small towns late at night - works well with CV carb from 650 ft to 12,000 ft elevation. |

V&H no longer makes carbon fiber cannisters and I'm almost positive that they had some disclaimer about no warranty offered on the carbon fiber cannisters due to the delicate nature of the material or some such. |

DJ, It will fit, but does it have the bung for the O2 sensor? |

Don't put a M2 pipe on a 99+ Thunderbolt or Lightning unless you are changing from fuel injection to carburator, you will need the o2 sensor that goes to the rear header pipe and there is no sensor bung (on the m2 header). -Mike (Message edited by littlebuggles on July 04, 2006) |

I have secured a bit of ceramic wool. When I get a shot, I will repack and re-install the V&H. I think my modified stock can is a bit of a "throbber". |
