ok so it was suggested i should get in some track days....how does that work i have a couple of sites bookmarked but id like some real world input...i know they break u down into classes but is it like a race or what or do u just putt around til u find someone that wants to run hard for a few corners... it looks like i need some kind of license im in washington state does that differ from state to state are there any kind of rankings and if i do get a racing lic can i do amature events thatd be cool explain please. | ||

You don't need a race license (only a valid mcycle license)to do a trackday. Like the name suggests you only need it to go racing. Track days are a fun, safe and easy way to fully utlize the potential of your bike. In most organizations the beginners group has a huge parity in terms of rider skill. There are coaches/instructors whom you follow or who follow you around and passing is severly restricted in the beginners group. But I'm willing to bet that if this is your first trackday, you will be able to go as fast as you want to go on the track without any one holding you back. And if you show some good speed you will probably get bumped into the intermediate group. The main thing about trackdays is to stay relaxed, not to think of it as a race and just to go out and have fun and learn from people. | ||

If you have questions the best thing to do will be an introductory track school. They will help you learn the track before you make major on track mistakes. They will also run you through the rules/instructions of the day, and will have you go out with control riders/instructors that will be able to give you some great feedback on what you are doing good, and what you can improve upon. | ||

I would do a few track days before going to a "race school" to get a racing license. Racing is a fairly expensive pursuit, even at the amature level. | ||

I'm not saying to go to 'race' school. I'm talking 'track' school. These generally are a 3 level process, level 1 is introductory for new track riders, level 2....etc. |
