Author Message   Krieket Posted on Thursday, January 10, 2008 - 12:50 am:        Hello everyone. =D I'm a new Buell owner (an '08 xb12r) from the Phoenix area who just did a stupid thing! I have only 150 miles on the bike and I already fouled something up! haha To put it simply, I put a motorcycle cover over my bike while the pipes were hot. Where was my brain you ask? Not sure there. Now I have melted plastic on about 3-4 inches of pipe on the right side. (durr durr I'm a smarty pants) Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get this melted tarp/plastic off of the pipes without ruining them? I was able to wipe most of it off after the bike re-melted what was on it, but there still remains a rather handsome looking residue of white and blue. I'm sure there's an easy fix (I hope) but I've never had to clean melted plastic off of pipes before.   Reepicheep Posted on Thursday, January 10, 2008 - 07:36 am:        I did the same thing a few times with various other plastic things. Give it a few heat cycles, and hit it with a brass brush. If you have not polished the headers, make sure you brush with the grain of the existing brush marks (if you have grain, the newer headers have kind of a bead blasted look).   Bluzm2 Posted on Thursday, January 10, 2008 - 03:42 pm:        I've had success using the green ScotchBrite pads. I got rubber from my shoes on my xb a couple months back may take 2x to get it all off but the oven cleaner makes it easy without scuffing up the pipes really bad.   Blake Posted on Monday, March 03, 2008 - 10:32 am:        I did much the same but with the lining of my brand new leather jacket. I left the residue for a while, let it get good and burnt, this on account of procrastination, not some wise plan. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that the residue was then easily removed via scotch brite pad. Then I had a nice shiny clean spot so invested another ten minutes to clean the rest of the header pipes.   Bott Posted on Friday, March 07, 2008 - 04:15 pm:        so, tuber headers clean up nice with just a scotchbrite? is this going with the grain or did you kind of randomly buff?
