I am playing with the idea of prepping a bike for Maxton, but I have a rules question. It says that you must be able to shut the fuel off without removing your hands from the bars for the fuel class. How do you meet this rule? Vacuum petcock? |

Some people use a shifter from a bike(like an old 10 speed derailleur type) attached to petcock, several petcock co's even offer them set-up to accept this,or use an electric solenoid like for a nitrous set-up and have switch near handlebar.I have this set-up as I run an electric fuel pump for turbo. Take a look at Fast By Gast or MPS sites. |

Jeffb, Pingle makes the most used remote shutoff petcock, tech inspectors tend to like vendor supplied bits rather than custom one-offs. Tech inspections is tighter on new people than it is for "regulars". Quality safety components go a long way towards passing tech. |

Thanks for the response. I looked up the Pingel fuel valve and will get it ordered tomorrow. I am converting a drag bike into a LSR bike. Any other hints or things that aren't obvious from reading the rules book? Thanks, Jeff |

Jeff, Step one is always to get a rule book!! I get three. They generally follow the SCTA-BNI rules but there are some differences. Get rule books from both. SCTA-BNI.org also has a sample inspection form which really helps me a lot. Remember this is a voluntary thing, there really isn't a us vs them thing going on. It seems like it sometimes but the tech people really do want you making runs they just want you doing it to a standard that has proven "safe" and has been "refined" over a number of years. Best of luck. Know the speeds in your class. there are some records for higher displacement engine that may be in reach. Always good to have a record. |

I started a construction business about four years ago. We helped Clay Wilwert build his new building in Dubuque so I still stay in close contact with everyone there. I'm building a LSR bike myself so maybe we'll cross paths sometime. Good luck Rob |
