My 04 XB12R has just over 5k on the odometer. I have been running this machine stock (and loving it) up until this week. While it was in getting some leaky base gaskets repaired (under warranty) I figured now would be a great time to upgraded my now rusting stock pipe to a complete factory race-kit. So I scored two polished race-kits and had them install one on my ride. Stock to Factory Race-Kit (the difference)..... First off, the sound is adrenaline pumping. This pipe gives the motorcycle personality. A loud, look at me, listen to me, here I come, muscle car type sound. Great sound at idle (potato, potato, popping), mild when not on the throttle, but a very nice, deep rumble at highway speeds. Performance....... I do feel less of a launch off the line with the race-kit. The bike would jump and leap from a dead stop. 1,2,3, gear was tough keeping the wheel on the ground when shifting at redline (in stock form). There is a huge gain in the mid-range and top-end with the race-kit. You must keep the revs up a little higher with the race-kit (don't drop below 4 grand), at 5 grand the bike has an unexplainable "burst" of speed and power, pulls very hard from 5K to redline. Hitting 110mph in third gear has never been easier. I have not had the bike maxxed out with the race-kit YET. The motorcycle lost a little off the line, but gained huge in the mid to top. The bike is faster overall, or should I say it gets up to speed faster. There was some torque lost in the low end. Overall I am satisfied with the performance from a full on Factory Race-Kit. |

Nice review. Question: does the front end come up easier in 3rd n 4th with the race kit? |

"""1,2,3, gear was tough keeping the wheel on the ground when shifting at redline (in stock form).""" ---------------------------------------------------- dang i beat my bike silly and i don't have a problem keeping the front end on the ground,(maybe 1st is the exception) it may get a little light(2nd/3rd.) but nothing like it wants to flip over or nothing. maybe i need to get the race kit.. """Hitting 110mph in third gear has never been easier""" ------------------------------------------------------------ must have that "turbo" kitted buell i saw on ebay.

my 05 xb12r racekitted w/ airbox holes drilled .. at track .. big wheelies in 1 to 2 gear .. then lesser 2 to 3rd. this is w/ me laying over tank @ 180#wet! i agree .. loss of down lower & massive gains at above 5k & w/ throttle pinned. on track i pin throttle down straight & just clutch gears w/ no let off on throttle. some say i shd clutchless change, but i'd rather keep in the powerband & keep on the bike! it sounds awesomely macho once the power comes in! |
