I have a City-X with a chopped tail and I now have a set of the Buell saddle bags. My question is for anyone who has the same setup.

Can you send me pics or post pics of how you attached your bags. Any help will be
greatly appreciated. I actually had already started a similar thread but I can not find it.

I'm looking at the same thing. I think we'll need shorter indicators that sit under the seat.

I am fabbing some mounts for the front straps but I am undecided on what I am going to do for the rear. I will post pics of the front when I am done.

I just hoped to see another riders solution.

Here a couple of my solution!! However, this is utilizing S1 saddle and tail bags I purchased from American Sport Bike. They are the same brackets you removed, just bent the slotted side 180 from where it was to the position it is in now, which allowed the brackets to orient properly forward and slanted a bit as noted in the pictures.

I dont see why this same way would not work with the factory XB bags, as they mount pretty much the same. That ring up front for the strap is a simple 1" Eye Bolt from Home Depot.

Works great all the way up to 135, according to the speedo!

I've only ever mounted mine with the three straps... and I haven't had them fall or shift significantly. I just reinforced the straps with "clips" similiar to suspended clips to ensure they do not come apart after the velco. Sorry no pics.

I take it that you used clips similar to those on backpacks. My question is how did you position the middle strap? Mine is on top of the fuse box and also block the seat latches.

SF: Installation per Instruction Sheet:

1. Hold the left and right saddlebags against the sides of the tail section.
2. Over the top of the tail section, pull an upper strap from the right saddlebag through the plasic buckle from the left saddlebag. Double back the Velcro hook strip to engage the loop strip.
3. Repeat for second strap.
4. Under the tail section, pull the lower strap from the right hand saddlebag through the plastic buckle from the strap on the left hand bag. Double back the Velcro hook strip to engage the look strip.Should be the middle strap
5. Wrap the rear Velcro hook straps on each saddlebag around the reflector brackets to engage the loop strips on the bottom of the saddlebags. I just doubled them back on themselves since I don't have the brackets
6. At the front of both bags, wrap the Velcro hook straps around the passenger footrest support and engage the hooks with the loops on the front of the saddlebags. I again, just doubled these back on themselves since I don't have the passenger brackets
7. To prevent damaging the finish, cut and fit lengths of the clear protective tape to those points where the saddlebags come into contact with the tail section Hmm... I never got any tape, but I don't have any blemishes either, so whatever
8. To remove any slack, press the saddlebags backward so the moulded-in notches fit around the turn signals.Could never get mine to sit perfectly around both signals when the bike was stock Adjust the straps and securely engage all Velcro hook and loop strips.

I don't think yours seemed stable because you have all 3 straps running above the tail, instead of having the one running below as described. No biggie, I did the same thing the first time... I just stared at it for awhile and eventually figured it out; wish I would have just asked someone on here like you have done.

Note:
I am only using the three straps, along with the trunk bag, which adds some stability to the saddlebags. The clips I am using don't serve any purpose besides a piece of mind in case the Velcro fails.

The only part that I am not happy with is that the rear turn signals are pressed down a bit (as you can see in the pics). I can take the centers out of the rear turn signal stalk and have plenty of room but I am running out if time since I am riding to Eureka Springs Friday. Also I need to pull the rear mounts in order to remove the adhesive off of the old reflectors (new rear mounts) and repaint them.

I also added sewed about 6 inches of velcro (the stiff part) to the existing straps so that I could use the original mounts under the seat.
