Hello all, I posted this in the knowledge vault: I have a 98- Thunderbolt s3. I removed my throttle control assembly temporarily and have since installed it. Now my throttle sticks when I open and close it. However, if I loosen the bolts that hold the assembly together there is normal free play on the throttle. There are no obstructions in the assembly, everything is where it should be. My questions: do I need to adjust the throttle cables? Do the throttle cables need adjustment after you remove the throttle control assembly everytime? The reason I ask is because when I removed the assembly I DID NOT remove the throttle cable adjusters b/c I did not need the assembly to come off the bike entirely. Because of this, I don't see why the throttle cables would not work the same way it did before I removed the assembly. I have a Mikuni carb that's for the buell (not from sportster) |

you've got the cables binding in the housing somewhere -- careful disassemlby and slow, patient, reassembly should have it good as new -- you don't have to ask how i know ;-} lube up the cables while you're in there It is better to be shot from a gun than squeezed from a tube -- HSThompson

dubya dee 40 works pretty well, espially in a pinch, but cable lube form a bike shop works longer, though (wd40 is much thinner) It is better to be shot from a gun than squeezed from a tube -- HSThompson

Bomber, You were right: some binding on the cables by the housing. What a pain that was to get right! I don't think I've ever been so frustrated while wrenching on this bike! Thanks for all of your help! |
