> Is there a cost advantage? Have you ever seen anything sold at a Harley dealership that was cheaper than a similar part sold elsewhere? Honestly, I haven't researched it. I don't know what (if any) difference might be found between the Andrew cams and stock X1 cams. I was just pointing out that I got the same advice from two people independently yesterday. |

Sanchez, Glad you are thinking about the cams. I have them in my clone and there is a world of difference. They dont hurt the bottom end and they let the motor pull all the way to redline. You won't be disappointed. While you have the Ign loose(cam cover)follow the harness back past the front sprocket and up. Look for rubs or damage to the harness. Mine had rubbed bare and was just waiting for a good road trip. I changed mine to a Dyna 2000i which I really like, but I'm not sure it was a plus as far as a performance up grade. Anyhow check your wiring now while it's easy....Charlie |

Sanchez: a couple of other thoughts you got the header off replace the studs do the gear in the timing chest what year is the motor? there may be more to the cam than a swap out, there may be a pinion gear difference I think that the X1 cams are similar to an Andrews grind there n6 comes to mind [ not sure ] If you decide to tweek while inside a call to Pammy ( Cycle rama )may be worth the time, they are a board sponsor too. the description of the X1s' pulling power earlier "Thats an accurate statement" |

Identify the cams you have first. They might not be stock. |

> Identify the cams you have first. They might not be stock. I have the cams out now, and they're stamped 1D through 4D. There are no other markings. Does that sound right for stockers? |

Yes, those are stock cams. Please know that you will lose some low end power in order to gain at the top end. |

> how is it going other wise? Ship shape so far. I'm stuck for the moment until I order the new cams. I'm resisting the urge to just throw the stockers back in and button it back up. I'm itching for a ride, but I know I'll kick myself later if I don't upgrade now. > Please know that you will lose some low end power in order to gain at the top end. I don't suppose anyone has a before/after dyno graph on Andrew N4's or X1 cams? I posed that very question to NRHS, and they said there'd be no appreciable loss on the bottom end. Unfortunately I've never dynoed my bike before, so I won't be able to say for sure. |

Alot depends on your style of riding. For me,I barely noticed any loss on the bottom. And so glad to have a bike that wanted to go all the wayto redline (prev. would go flat at about 5600) It was like getting off an ole stable horse and climbing on a stallion. I put a few more things on after that and the stallion got stronger(but that's another story) |

Sanchez: Check the KV I posted stock X1 numbers VS forcewinder / supertrap numbers that should give you some idea of what to expect my description for you is that the bike when moving will pull from above idle to the red line, it will be happiest motoring about between 2k and 3.5k above 3.5 the 800 pound gorillia cones out and trys to pull your arms out of the socket. as you approach 5.5k the gorilla becomes insistant at 6k things go over the hump (its still pulling hard but not like before) you should hit the limiter about 6.8k and things just stop then start then stop shift and repeat as desired I would look for the x1 cams vs the andrews the gears are cut differently and "fitting" is not needed, they should just bolt in PS get your lifters off of the floor and into some motor oil idealy they should be in the order that they came out those little guys need to be kept clean or else havoc may result |
