I recently did a bolt-in cam swap in my '00 M2. I did a lot of research and lined up everything beforehand to minimize downtime--or so I thought. Well I had wanted to leave the front rocker box alone but couldn't get the new cams in. So I figured, with all the pushrods out, why not go aluminum, save some weight in the valvetrain... Didn't want to pull the pushrod tubes or have adjustable issues, so I ordered Andrews fixed-length alu thru my local Harley dealer (Andrews don't sell retail). They came in 5 days... however, instead of 2 intakes and 2 exhausts, I got 3 and 1. Now I'm up sh!t creek. Harley couldn't be bothered on a low-$ special order from a 3rd-party vendor. So I call Andrews, they say they'll send me another exhaust next business day. I have to return the extra intake with their RMA#. After a week, no pushrod comes. So I call Andrews... hasn't been sent yet. Fortunately I got ahold of the tech I talked to the first time, he remembered me, had it overnighted. Bottom line, 14 days extra down time, 5 because of my decision change mid-teardown, 9 because of Andrews' mistake. I had to pay the extra charge for overnight shipping. I'm not ranting, just saying: if you're gonna change pushrods, have 'em on hand first and check length before teardown. Any issues, ask for Ralph at Andrews. He's a good guy who got me hooked up. |
