At track day. 2001 x1 after a few hard runs started to cut out in hard cornering and missing on exit (acceleration) with engine light appearing. Would sometimes straighten out with going light on the gas. When I first got it off the trailer the neutral light would stay on even in gear. Then this was sparatic with the neutral light. And no problems in the beginning even with the neutral light. No problems with performance until end of third twenty minute session of running hard. Let cool down for a session then it returned by turn two (elkhart lake). Help....Please I have one more day on tuesday. Engine head sensor? Neutral switch? Thanks for any ideas. Pale |

Had already bypassed the kickstand switch some time ago. Also even with the neutral light on and in neutral you still have to pull the clutch in to start. Touchy that way. I will recheck the kickstand switch connection. Thanks Pale |

Sorry, correction. The bike needs to be put in neutral to restart. It will not restart with the clutch pulled in and in gear. With the bypass of the kickstand switch. I will try a better ground maybe for that switch? For the moment. Ideas??? Thanks and sorry for the mess here. Pale |

Open your gas cap and if you hear air rush in it could be your tank vent is sticking. SteveH |

Josh , Yep at RA. Oc I will give it a try. I bypassed the neutral light switch and grounded it. Everything was great when the bike was cold. then when it warmed up the same thing, light came on and started losing power. i will try OC's idea here in a minute. Thanks guys.....Up date in just a bit. Pale |

I've got the blue FJR in the A group. If you've got time you should check the angle/bank sensor. That should only kill the motor after a crash tho. Do you have a manual? |

Wow that is cool. Looks like I wont be making the tuesday run, no go with the gas cap from OC's idea. gets cruddy when warmed up. It will set me out a couple of bills but oh well I had a great time the first half of monday. Thanks for the help guys I appreciate it. Pale |

Damn. If I still had my S3 I would have brought a ton of spare parts with me. At least come back out and get a 2-up ride with Reg. |

Josh, How are the new tires working out so far? (Sorry for the threadjacking.) |

(as posted on a different thread) I just finished two days with CLASS at Road America with new Dunlop Qualifiers on my FJR instead of my usual Z6s. Last year I did two hot days with CLASS, loved the Z6s and proceeded to put 9000miles on them after the two tracks days. Killer tires in all conditions. The Qualifiers are fine in the dry, but I would not wish them on anyone in the wet. It rained yesterday pretty good. Any time there was water on the track, the Qualifiers slid at any lean angle. Traction was fine when upright, but they were terrifying when leaned over to any degree. Z6s are going back on today. |

It was pretty strange, I could do some really good braking and acceleration when upright, but *any* lean angle and I would feel the tires slide away. I know it wasn't just me as several guys had put on the new Qualifiers just for CLASS and said the same thing (Dunlop is a big sponsor of Reg and students get discounts). My real problem with them is I did not notice much of a difference in the dry vs my everyday (and last year's CLASS) Metzeler Z6s - of course I did not do back-to-back on-the-track comparisons. 'Course the rear FJR-specific Z6 costs as much as the pair of Qualifiers from Reg. But I'll keep the Z6s. |
