I was thinking about making a custom headlamp assembly for my Ss using 4 smaller diameter lights instead of the 2 large ones. Think this is a possibility, or am I setting myself up for a dead battery? I'm willing to swap out all my smaller bulbs for LEDs to ease the load, if necessary... ~SM | ||

I think you will be ok. The service manual lists the regulator at 34-38 amps, for the '03 xb9 bikes, and 34 amps for the '06 uly. I'm told you should leave a buffer of 3-4 amps and give the battery some time to recharge, less amp draw, after starting. | ||

you can run (quantity 4) 55 watt headlamps continuously AND an electric vest and heated grips. ran 1375 miles in 29 hours last year on my XB12,all accesories on full..... no problems. even took a nap for an hour laying on ground beside bike with electric vest plugged in ( bike shut OFF of course). got 3 years use from original battery, which still passes a load test, but replaced it anyway a couple weeks ago. | ||

well first thing you want is a corbin saddle, next thing is to "work up to it" try a couple 250 or 300 mile rides after work, kind of get used to the fatigue cycle. as far as lighting, keep the auxilliaries as simple as possible, I used a pair of PIAA 55 watt (H3) clamped to forks, and used the included PIAA relay wired to trigger WITH the high beam switch. next cool thing to do if you plan fast riding at night, is install HID in the low beam housing, wired so it stays on at all times. (HID lightning does NOT want to cycle on and off, so cant use for high beam), no matter, as a single HID in the low beam housing will throw more LUMENS on the road than the other 3 halogens. as far as alternator output, you will not have a problem. | ||

Fullpower - I run 55w Hella lights, heated grips, and an electric vest too. I was good for about 45 minutes before my bike was low enough that it started to run poorly. 2003 xb9r |
