Geeze, I look out out in my driveway and what do I see?? Another 12Ss like mine?
No wait, it's my bike, going to the shop again!@! On Sunday it developed a horrendous primary/tranny noise. Good thing I was only a short distance from home (less than 5 minutes).A very mechanical, off balance oscillating whirring type noise. It all but drowned out the racket the engine makes!! I even had the wife lying down on the shop floor to make sure I wasn’t hearing things. I thought the chain had become loose, so I checked it and it had about 5/8” play cold at 2 different tight spots, so I negated that. The bike was built in Jul 05 and I am now wondering if the crank nut was torqued to 260ftlbs, in accordance with the TSB issued 15 Sep 05. Anyway, back to the shop for round 2. And I can promise, I will not be spending $300 to fix a warranty issue again. It’s bad enough my wife has to take time off of work to drive the 2 hour round trip to drop it off. I will report back when I know more. Dan (Message edited by dbf on May 23, 2006) |

Hey Dbf, how many miles are on your bike now and how many the first time it happened? Seems to be a trend here. |

"probably" a loose primary nut... I hope it's an easy fix. It happened all of a sudden, while down shifting, 3rd to 2nd. Dan |

Hey Dbf, how many miles are on your bike now and how many the first time it happened? 4900 miles (78oo kms). This is the first time it happened. The other issue I referred to was, what I suspect, a faulty ECM. The bike was experiencing some pretty bad drivability problems, and after I installed the race ECM, they all went away. Dealer could find nothing wrong. Dan} |

I got the bike back tonight. Apparently the front sprocket was so loose, the tech could move it with his hand. Anyway, it was torqued to 260ftlbs and filled with Formula+. It was so much quieter, makes me think it was loose from day 1. Dan |

I think the TSB (or whatever HD/Buell call them) was for all XL/XB's from '03 and up. I asked Travis and he said he thinks my bike was the first Buell they saw for this problem. He said the twin 88's were the biggest culprits when it came to this issue. When I was driving home, I saw you and all your HD brethren heading down town. Must have been going to Perks, eh? Dan |
