I have a buddy with a 12s and he wants a aftermarket pipe. Since the stock pipe has a X-up type system on it is their anything extra that needs to be done after adding a pipe? I understand that an ECU would help but has anyone had any problems with just an exhaust? With out the "X-up" does the stock ecm screw things up. Any advice would be awsome. Thanks. |

If your going to allow more air out, you need to allow more air in. |

If your going to allow more air out, you need to allow more air in. And what goes better with air than fuel! If you don't think air/fuel ratio, you'll run lean. |

Leave the wire harness hooked up and just zip tie the cable that operates the valve out of the way under the bike. That's what I did. Otherwise you will get a Trouble Code and the Engine Trouble Lite will stay on. I'd leave the cable on. What if he ever wants to sell the bike and the new owner wants the stock can on? I'd hate to try and run a new cable. It's a tight fit. As for the lean condition? I don't really know about the absolute need for the Race ECM. Is it worth it? Sure. BUT there is a guy in out Group of riders that has a 2003 9S with the drummer and everything else is stock. He's been riding that bike for a few YEARS like that. He puts on a lot of miles and has never had any issues with the bike running lean. Has he had it Dyno'd or the air/fuel ratio check? I don't believe so. But if the bike was running as lean as some people think it would be, problems would have surfaced LONG AGO. Just another guys opinion. Take it or leave it. |

if it isnt going to get done right(computer, filter, and exhaust) you are just wasting money and possiably a motor along the way. spending money to be harder on your bike isnt a great idea. especially depending on the pipe thats chosen it could be running in way to lean and going to blow up country. just some food for thought. |

you will loose power with just an exhaust I wouldn't say that, mine made more power with the D&D with the stock ECM on it, although I did have the timing done on it first. |

Cochise, Is that the stock ECM Vs. the Race ECM, or are you just talking about the pipe? |
