Well, not the most elegant solution but it sure is handy! Got the lock for about $40 through daves, couple stainless bolts/washers from ACE, red-lock tight..

Did they match your buell key to the lock? I was thinking of something similar but in a different location Once a Marine always a Marine!

On the S models - Take your seat off. Take the strap of the seat (Put away for safe keeping). Slide the D-ring from your helmet over the post that the seat latch slides around and replace the seat. Instant locked helmet holder. Free. |

Dapope - great idea - but no so practical if you've got luggage on an S. ( Ditto using the little wire loop thing in the OEM underseat kit - not enough length to clear the luggage) I've been toying with the concept of mounting a helmet lock somewhere down around the rear pegs - anyone tried that / have suggestions? ( NB: I usually ride solo, with tankbag, panniers, and the tailbag, so there's not really anywhere topside for a lock) |

Why bother locking a helmet at all? Thieving bastardos just cut the darn strap when they want it. It has happened to me before. I took to taking the GF's helmet and my own and locking them to the bike with a giant thumb thick Kryptonite braided cable. That one cost me TWO Arai Signets................. Darn theif cut the cable in a busy restaurant parking lot................... Now If I am going somewhere I know I am going to have to lock up my helmet I take a Kryptonite U-lock and run that through the chinbar. Doing that I figure it is a matter of time before some frustrated thief stomps my helmet into the ground................ |

'cause I go places where a) carry the helmet is a PITA, b) cant carry stuff in anyway ( backpack check, etc,) where I'm more likely to lose a helmet than locked to the bike. helmet lock + city cover + proximity alarm makes sure things are where I leave them. just out of curiosity, what did they use to cut the Kryptonite braided cable? That stuff is supposed to be almost un-cuttable, even using commercial bolt & cable gear. ( local fire dept has had issues with bikes locked down to hydrants with krypton cables) |

Ulendo, I have no idea what they cut it with. It was a super clean cut with no heat discoloration. So I have to assume cable cutters. It was Krypto's biggest and baddest cable lock though. Sure did suck. It was at the Anaheim Motorcycle Show so If I had to guess, they were pros on a mission. |

A triangular file will cut a cable quick. |

Harley makes a generic helmet lock that will attach to the passenger peg arms. Made to go on a tube frame, but it will fit around. What sucks is it's chrome, needs a different key, and it's a little tricky getting the helmet on and off...had to put it on the right side so I could get to it. But it worked very well when I couldn't carry my helmet around. |

Rafartist - the Kryptonite cables arent a regular aircraft cable, rather they're some sort of hardened ( and braided) tool steel / stainless. a normal file wont even scratch them, and even my carbide machinists files didnt do a whole lot to the one I tried. the fire dept has had issue of not being able to cut them with their hydraulic cutter - thus my Q' about how it was cut. FWIW, if I was umm, intending something illegal, I'd probably use a couple of big capacitors, and a pair of TIG rods, to build a portable carbon arc cutter for this stuff - thats how they shear tow cables on ocean salvage tugs, for example. not exactly what most grab artists have on hand, however. |

It has to do with what bolt cutters you have. I have Record 930HD 3ft professional bolt cutters and these things cut thought Kryptonite cables like butter. I am guessing that is what they used. They run around $150.00 |

Wasn't there a big thing in the news a couple years ago about Kryptonite locks being picked open with the cap of a Bic pen? |
