Only custom one-offs have ztl style brakes as far as I know. About 30 years ago, a roadracer had one on a Kawasaki. |

Taken from the Suzuki website: "Innovative new Suzuki Advanced Exhaust System (SAES) with new under engine muffler layout and Suzuki Exhaust Tuning (SET) system for improved mass centralization, superior aerodynamics, and improved low-to-mid range performance"} |

The patents addressed above are for the shape of the front of the muffler helping direct air flow to cool the motor and tranny. The muffler valve patent is specifically for 2 cylinder motors. Unless there are other patents on the books the Japanese are not infringing on the Buell patents. |

I didn't see any others for exhausts. I think there is one, but it should have expired by now. Patents don't last forever. Working off some dates Court mentioned, I think it expired this year, hence the appearance of underslung mufflers on all these bikes. :-) |

Suzuki can't come up with their own marketing either, their new slogan is "own the racetrack" they must have a "what can we steal from Buell today" committee... somewhere inside "sopukey" headquarters a little guy with his glasses slid down on his nose, raises his hand and says "what if we use the flame (japanese accented pronunciation of frame) as our gas tank?" and the guy beside of him says "great idea!!! and what if we make the swing arm the orr tank"... and then the R&D director says "i think those ideas are as good as the underberry muffrer...i rike it, ret's do it" My intent is not to offend anyone by the comments above...just poking fun at the situation... |

I don't see what the big deal is. It's not like Erik was the first with an under engine exhaust. |

Nor was Erik the inventor of the motorcycle, but that didn't stop him from finding a new and IMO of building a better one! Like the Japanese have ever had an original idea!

They must have a "what can we steal from Buell today" committee To be honest, any company that isn't looking to see what their competitors are doing is being negligent. It doesn't bother me that the Buell exhausts ends up on Suzuiks and Kawasakis. It just confirms that Buell got it right. What does bother me is that there will be a hoard of riders who assume that Kawasaki came up with the idea and Buell coppied it. |

Japanese have a knack for taking an Idea and making their own version.. No Originality... Take the bike market.. Everything looks the same.. I was watching some stunters on Jap bikes.. They are all beat up no logo's my buddy ask's me what kinda bikes those are.. I tell them I have no Idea... I can pick a buell out of a crowd or duc, triumph and a bmw but other than a busa they all look the same to me..I'm sure another jap company will copy that look soon as well.. No outside the box thinkers... The Creative Engineering/Just being different and beauty why I like my buell... |

Suzuki can't come up with their own marketing either, their new slogan is "own the racetrack" they must have a "what can we steal from Buell today" committee... I have a GSX-R750 from 1996 with the "Own the Racetrack" slogan in watermark across every double page........some people around here get a little too "Buell was the first to do everything" syndrome. You'll find alot of the stuff on mainly the XB series has been done before, just not all on the one motorcycle. |

You could always buy a Harley. Then, by the time you're done with service, customizing, etc., you'll have spent enough money there to "Own the Dealership" Stretch |

"About 30 years ago, a roadracer had (a ZTL brake) on a Kawasaki." Perimeter mounted disk maybe. ZTL system? Doubtful. It would need to be a floating disk and be positioned inboard of the rim and also take advantage of the ability to significantly lighten the wheel hub and spokes. |
