Hypothetical question: If I were to buy a race ECM and put it on my bike and NOT adjust my throttle sensor, is this going to cause a problem? On buell.com it states that you have to make and adjustment to you throttle sensor if you buy the race ECM. So I want to make sure I'm not going to hurt me or my bike. |

It NEEDS to be done for your bike to run right. You have about a 25% chance it won't run at all until the tps is reset. |

Thanks, that's what I needed to know. |

No problem. You will also need to run your bike at around 3500 rpms for 10 minutes or so to get the ECM to adjust the AFV for your bike. Then it will run the way it was meant to run. |

Just to add to this, I put my bike together this past weekend with a race ecm and D and D. It will run but not all that good. At idle it was fine. The adjustment is a must. Took it to the HD dealer, 34 dollars later it was fine...... |

That's why I pissed right now. The only Buell shop in my close vicinity wants $200 to install it. That's a $400 mod and it sounds like I'm being taken OR Gail's made a mistake in quoting the install price. |

The ECM is easy to install yourself, just have a dealer adjust the TPS |

Ride to Gail's. Install ECM. Push bike to Service. Have them re-set the ECM. They can only charge re-set fee. Around $35 or so. The install is a piece of cake. |

Just talked to them again. They "have to put it on a dyno and run it for 2 hours to know how to set it and the TPS." Popping of the stock ECM and placing the new one is something I'm happy to do. But getting them to set it for less than $200 seems to be the hard part. |

"have to put it on a dyno and run it for 2 hours to know how to set it and the TPS." WHAT!? You bought a Buell Race ECM? Or did you buy something else like a PC3? A Buell Race ECM only needs the scan tool, to zero out the TPS, that's it, no dyno. |

"Just talked to them again. They "have to put it on a dyno and run it for 2 hours to know how to set it and the TPS." NOt for an ecm swap. Its litteraly a 2 min job. I takes more to let the bike warm up. |

I'm really frustrated at this point. Yes, I am buying a Buell OEM Race ECM from Dave (Appleton HD/Buell). No third party mystery part here. I called back to Gails a third time, even talked with someone else, and they verified that they understand what they want me to do and stuck with their quote. I'm honestly not a techie guy, but I'm not an idiot. I'm calling another dealer within 90 miles to see what they will do. |

It sounds like the dealer doesn't know what he is doing or that he's trying to rip you. Either way, I'd find another dealer. |

Sounds like they either don't know what they are talking about, or they are trying to take you for a ride. I would definitely go to a different dealer, one that knows Buells. |

Anyone in KS with VDSTS? Someone help this guy out. This dealer is trying to take him for a ride. If you were closer to FL, I'd reset it for you for free. |

I installed the Buell Race ECM in Gail's parking lot about a month ago and had them reset the TPS. I don't have the receipt handy, but I think it was around $40 (I don't remember exactly, because I had a bunch of other work done, too). Somebody there ought to know what's going on. I've only had my bike there a couple of times, but they've done good work for me. |

For $200, just buy the VDSTS from DaveS or Al at American Sport Bike. Then you can do the reset and services yourself. All you'll need is a computer and the service manual. |

you realy dont even need the service manual. all the information comes on the cd with the kit when you buy it in a pdf format. I would do it for you if you were closer to Houston TX. Dont waste any more time jacking with the dealer. Just call DaveS or Al and they can get you straight. They will also provide a whole lot of help if you get stuck as will most of the people on this board. Trust me....you wont be dissapointed. |

Dealer installed ECM HORROR STORY! My dealer intalled/falshed ecm. I drove my XB9R in with out the faring on to save on labor costs. the tech left a few bolts out when he put my headlight/instrument assymbly back on. It fell off going down the road. |
