My '00 M2 (Forcewinder, Yost power tube, WileyCo muffler, 45 slow jet, 195 main, idle mixture 2 1/2 turns out, 6300 miles) was running fine 'til mid-ride Saturday when it started missing under acceleration.

The coil and ignition module test OK, there are no carb manifold leaks. VOES operates when I apply oral suction (don't out me). I replaced the carb slide and diaphragm. I've had the carb apart several times, and nothing is plugged or leaky. The enrichener seems to be seating, but I'm not sure how to test it.

With the ForceWinder off, if I lift the slide while rolling on the throttle, it runs smooth.

I just moved to Durango, CO (from Denver), and have no Buell support here, so I'm trying to muddle through on my own. The folks on this board have been very helpful in the past. Any ideas on this problem? Thanks!

float set correctly?

while the coil/leads/plugs may test OK, one of em may be failing under acceleration

where didja move from? could need a re-jet due to altitude changes?

Thanks for the reply. That's a good point about failing on acceleration. Float's set right. I moved from Denver. Maybe another 1500' of elevation. The fact that it started acting up mid-ride makes me think it's electrical, but I dunno.

I'd guess electrical as well --

long distance diagnostics are an iffy proposition at best

;-}

From what I hear people say..Check tank vent valve may be choking your fuel getting to your carb.

Always check/eliminate the sidestand safety switch from the troubleshooting equation early in the diagnosis. Easy to bypass, easy the change, easily makes it seem like something else is wrong. Jam a safety pin in it and go for a ride to see if the problem is solved.

That and a fresh set of spark plugs will give you a clean slate to diagnose from.

How does it run when the petcock is put on reserve? Doesn't matter how much gas is in the tank if the inlet tube has migrated up and is closing off at the top of the filter screen.

Judging by the smell of the exhaust and the way it starts back up, The problem seems to be that it's not getting enough air, not too little gas. Thanks for all the input. I'll check the sidestand switch.

"Always check/eliminate the sidestand safety switch from the troubleshooting equation early in the diagnosis. "

Very wise advice.

I'm almost certain it was a sidestand safety switch problem that was causing those same symptoms on my 2000 M2. It wasn't until the switch failed altogether that I was able to track it down. Once I bypassed the switch, the misfiring during acceleration stopped. Must have had something to do with vibration (or the lack of it) that was making the switch fail intermittently.
