Yeah BOb I ran into the same inflated prices at Surdyke's in Festus when my Dad was here in November. He was really checking out a used M2 and I could tell he had the fever to do something spur of the moment like replace his Blast. The sales guy tossed a figure out there close to $9k and I about fell over. After speaking to him a bit more...he was a nice enough guy but admitted he knew nothing about Buells and little about motorcycles. He offered that he didn't even ride but had always wanted to get a HArley. I think I know what I want to do when I punch from the AF this August and change careers. (I cannot really say 'retirement' at 39) I just need to find a dealership (prefreably in a mountainous region) that wants to sell Buells, make money, and build positive customer relations/loyalty. Vould you buy un Buell from das gent? damn DAve, you took down your old site with your jester photo and changed your profile pic. Fortunately you posted a good substitute to use. Hey, to answer your question over on the pic page, I cut the sky in Norm's image and replaced it with a blue from my palette. I tried to plant the thought that it'd look cool with a bit of alpenglow on those mountains, but as he pointed out, it would make for a chili ride home. HAve fun, Steve(2) |

HSTA has a newly AMA certified rally May 23, 24 and 25 in Sparta NC...Take a look at your maps and note that Sparta is located close to VA 16 out of Marion VA that John and I are always talking about...This one could be interesting... See Ya! Bob |

Keith...Thanks for pointing that slip up out to me...That's the problem when you re-use the same message over and over...Won't be the last time... By the way, I've been meaning to complement you on the pics...I hadn't remembered that you guys had done Parson's Branch but isn't that too cool...At times did you wonder where the sky went?...Not for the timid or those not comfortable on dirt, gravel and a bit of mud (or without a front fender) but it is really worth it... Thanks again, Bob |

DAve, Check out the pic I posted on the race exhaust gaskets thread. Also, what does that 65784-96ya look like? Are you able to use the new style Y-bracket? Did the 65784 bracket come on the S3's? If so, I may have one. I just dont recognize the number. Do you have a pic of it? Bob, My heads are on the way to Nallin for some mods. They will return with his pistons at the same time. Probably a couple of weeks till I get all the items I need to assemble the engine. Later, John |

ANy way you can send me a full sized scan of that? I'll post it to some space I have and make a link to it. If not, what date was that out of? (My Dad has all my Battle2Wins though) I don't know what the part's function actually is John. I asked if anyone knew but no answer. It may be that lil header support found on '97-'98 S3s. The race kit instructions don't show a picture of it but states the S2 needs one to mount up the race kit. If the new Y bracket was a suitable substitute, ya'd think the new Buell number would reflect the Y bracket part number.... hmmmmmm I don't think it's that race exhaust hanger that often breaks and is clamped to the header. I thought it was in the kit but I may be wrong...my kit's out buried in the shed. Good idea though if it's the one yer thinkin' of. DAve |

Bob, The first mile or so of Parson's Branch road was a little hairy at times. There was one point that I informed her that if it got any worse she might have to get off and walk a bit so that I didn't take the chance of dropping the bike with both of us. After the first mile or so I kind of got in a groove and had alot of fun. Heather even enjoyed the scenery and the relaxing pace. Well up to a point. After we went through the first 2 streams I started upping the pace through the next 16 or 17 streams. It became kind a contest of whether or not I could throw water up on her. couldn't resist. Glad we decided to do this road on Saturday. Sunday would have been real messy with all the rain. I forgot how much fun a little off road action could be. That road would be alot of fun with a 125 or a 250! Your right, About half way through you start to wonder if you are ever going to emerge from the forest. It took us just under an hour to travel from the visitors center across the back country and back out to the dragon. It was well worth going out of the way to see! p.s. Don't tell my Boss, but I broke down and called Daves in Waterloo to order a pair of Joe Rocket Ballistic 4.0 pants today! Will have the full set now! |

Just thought I'd share this with everybody... I was coming back from lunch yesterday, and there was an accident about a mile from the shop at an intersection. They were directing traffic the other way, and I spotted a blue GSXR600 on its side, with its front end smooshed and fairing all over the place. I guess some lady ran a red light going about 30 or so as the guy on the gixxer was making a turn. He went over the hood, and broke his collar bone and arm. It was a brand new bike and he was a new rider. His buddy on a CBR watched the whole thing happen, but slowed down because he seen her in time. At about the exact time yesterday, anoth squid went down on the same road, on down the road about 5-8 miles. Same thing..person ran a red light, and creamed him. He wasn't as lucky as the first guy, and it took his life. They were both wearing a helmet. I expect it probably broke his back. R.I.P. Heed the wake-up call fellas. Watch the cagers, and don't be falling asleep on your motorcycle Seems like about the only way to survive with all the idiots in their 1 ton dually diesel and fancy barge sized SUV's is to either wear full leathers w/ spine protectors, or to just stay the hell away from crowded streets and highways. I opt for choice #2 On a different slightly better note, the Buell is 90% complete...should be able to get her buttoned up tonight Now I can be a "chromosexual" (shop talk) since I have an abundance of chrome frame

1. Riders need to remember we are INVISIBLE and not invincible. 2. Cagers ARE out to kill us all and remember rule #1. 3. Take a MSF course and remember #1. 4. Cagers are wrong and we are dead or torn, spindled, or mutilated and remember rule #1. 5. There are two types of motorcycle riders...those that have crashed and those that will crash...don't forget rule #1. 6. #5 Used to say "There are two types of motorcycle riders...those that have gone down and those that will go down" ....I knew John, Sam and the rest of SLAB and the MOB would want that list of wimmin' riders!!!! I had a thought this morning. (Yeah, your most alert early in the am.) SLAB keeps posting on KCMOB. KCMOB keeps posting on SLAB. Maybe we should think about a MOB. (Missourians on Buells). Then we would not have to keep opening both sites to keep up on all the blathering we do. Just a thought. I am off to work. 6am and ice on the road this am. If I can find a pic of that nickel plated S1, I will scan and post it tonight. |

I REALLY, REALLY like John's idea...What do the rest of you think?... Sat we're LEAVING from the Eureka QT at 0900 for a back road ride to Rolla for lunch at noon at Johnny's Smoke Stak on 72, meeting up with HSTA'ers from around the state and even Arkansas (yes, Krazy Kathy will be there)...Along the way we'll be picking up a group in Washington coming from St Chuck...Now, the best part...The forecast for Rolla Sat is partly cloudy with a high of 62!!! See Ya! Bob |

My dad will frown if I join the MOB. Incidentally Ace Cafe was cool (Bob, Radcliff got you a shirt from there, yes?), I suggest a stop if you're in the area. I don't know about Saturday. I'd like to go but it's Mariabelen's birthday so perhaps we'll do what she likes to do |

Josh...Welcome home and thanks for helping me out with Blake...I didn't explain clearly enough the fact that the large majority of the scooters in HSTA were not Honda's and you did so very succinctly...So is the Ace mostly burgers and stuff or can you get fish and chips on a newspaper?...Any unique foods on the menu?... See Ya! Bob |
