Bought my new XB12STT at Santa Cruz HD about a month ago (Santa Cruz, CA). I got a great deal, since they were clearing their leftover '07 models at invoice (copy of invoice was provided). I was also able to talk them into lowering the $600 "setup and handling" fee to $300. However - after the deal was done and papers signed, the pre-delivery service SUCKED. Basically, the bike was delivered to me directly from the showroom floor. No adjustments, tire pressure checks, safety checks, or ANYTHING. I guess they figured they didn't need to invest any time in the bike since I talked them down on the setup fee. I know they didn't make any money on the deal, but they still should have gone through the bike and set it up correctly prior to delivery (safety checks, suspension setup, fluid checks, etc). I asked the salesman why nothing was adjusted right, bike was dirty, etc, and he just said they had done all the required service "a while back". Bottom line - After I got home I did the inspection and adjustments myself. The throttle and clutch cables were WAY out of adjustment, the oil level was low, the tire pressures were only showing 20 PSI, the engine temp sensor was loose and causing check engine light (and rough idle), and the bike was really dirty. (it also had 35 miles on it already, kinda high for a "new" bike). Overall, I was happy with the price, but pissed about the service. Luckily, I'm a do-it-yourselfer, so it's all done now, but I don't have anything positive to say about that experience. |

We don't always get a 100% satisfactory sales experience. Buyer beware. I would venture to say that you got what you paid for though, and a cool bike at that. How well did you check it out before driving off? Apparently it was OK enough to get you home. If there were obvious things wrong before leaving, like a check engine light or oil light on, it's your/our duty to tell the service folks to fix them before taking delivery. Sorry if this sounds superficial, but the sales people are not the ones who will service your bike. |

I agree "I got what I paid for", since I got the bike at invoice and also had the setup and handling fee cut in half. HOWEVER, I still feel that it's the dealer's LEGAL DUTY to inspect and setup the bike properly before delivery. There are safety issues involved here, like the low tire pressure. I also agree that "the sales people are not the ones who will service your bike", but they ARE the ones that are supposed to make sure it's completed before delivery to the customer. I've bought almost a dozen other bikes in the past 20 years, including several Harleys and two Buells, so I'm very familiar with the "typical" delivery process at the dealer. This guy simply didn't care, and just rolled the bike straight off the floor and handed me the keys - that's not how it's supposed to be done... |
