yep .. attempted another wheely last fri nite & bike reared so fast, it became airborne vertically & threw me off & wow .. what a scene! all i did was hole-saw some holes in side of airbox to reflect '06 models & restore factory susp. settings. clutched it in 1st & revved it .. normally i get 1-2 feet .. this time i was lucky to (1) NOT destroy bike &, (2) my neck & knees aren't broken, tho i walk w/ a limp & am sore as hell & bruised up good. man it was wild! Respect the machine, because it could care less who you think you are and will bite you in the @$$ quicker than shit if you let it. The bike only does what you tell it to do, barring anything crazy like the engine just blowing up on you, which in reality is probably because you told it to by doing/not doing something (maintenance, etc.). I have a stock bike, and try as I might, I am lucky to be able to get the front wheel to come up at all under hard acceleration. It is quick, but it doesn't seem to have the grunt that most people talk about here. I am trying to get the race kit for it, but don't know if I am going to have any luck. I have no idea why it doesn't seem to have any power. Maybe the timing is off. Not sure. Not sure if the dealer is sure either. But the bike is still under warranty, and I would like to figure out why others can, and I cannot. Stretch |

Stretch, he clutched and revved it. If you run yours up to about 4k in 1st, chop the throttle, then whack it open, it will come up. Cover the rear brake. |

No, it won't. Doesn't do anything except go forward. It surges a bit. May even pick the wheel up an inch or so. I have a race kit on order. Bike has 2800 miles. They may or may not be able to get the race kit in. But between the 2 bikes, both serviced at the same dealership, I can't help but get the feeling that I am being punked. Tires, servicing, etc, and more and more money, for less and less out the door. The more I ride and talk to other people, the more I am beginning to realize there might be a problem. I know a guy who has had a bad valve in his bike for what he says has been over 2 months, and they left him bikeless for over a month, claiming that they never got parts in for it. Since the bike was his primary form of transportation, he had to take it back. A month later, they said they finally got the parts in, but I haven't seen or talked to him since. Hopefully he has got it done. When I first got the bike it would run to 140 no problem. Since the first service, it hasn't seemed right, and just gets slower and slower. Not burning oil, Gas mileage is fine, but a general lack of power. Somebody on a stock 9 walked away from me like I was standing still. It's getting to the point where no one can work on the bikes anymore except them, and I keep getting the feeling that it is getting detuned. With no one else to take it to, and the warranty still in effect anyway, there are few options for us here. I am going to be relocating soon, if I can ever get anyone to put a roof on the house, and hope to be able to find someone who has a love for the bikes. I don't mind paying for it, but I am getting really tired of never having it done right. Been riding over 7 years on Harleys. Watching everything that is happening to the biker scene is really beginning to leave a bad taste in my mouth. I've talked to other people who have said the same thing. There isn't any trust left. I might be able to find another way to flush my money down the toilet, like maybe buying a sailboat instead. I'll have to wait and see. BTW, about 300 miles since last service. After scrubbing the tires in and taking it out, this is the observation. Waiting to see if and when the race kit comes in and it improves before I jump to conclusions. But my little voice is getting kind of chatty, and I don't like what I am hearing at all. Stretch |

Hey Stretch, just had my timing adjusted and it has made a world of diffrence on mine...It seems that the Sportster setting is standard on the engine and so they tell you that there's nothing wrong with it but you get less spark Knock(main reason I had mine adjusted) and power diffrence was suprising. |

if your bike is running that bad AND you add the race kit it may add to the problem. sounds like there is something not right. even stock that bike will wheelie like no tomorrow. |

Stretchman, Are you having any pre-igniton/pinging problems with the engine hot? I was and after retarding the timing about 3 degrees the engine revs better and has more power! Too much advance and the engine is fighting itself. Too little advance and you got a slug because of poor combustion. There is a very fine line between slow and slower. |

Probably retarded then. Looks good, just added a seat and mirrors. Lots more comfy. Look for me in the slow race. Still can't shake the image of the Motorcop blowing by me on his R1, and giving me the finger.... Stretch |

sik_s ... u r of course correcto. i was showing off a little for the little lady on her ducati monster .. oh boy .. she lowsided to avoid running me over & was a total darling abt it .. fack .. i feel like a tool, but i guess u have to find yr limits. i am restoring my *corrected* settings .. ie: more preload & stiffer rear than my weight (eats tires tho) & more up front too .. (twitchy front - for which i'll add a damper). i drilled a million 1/8" holes in front of airbox bodywork - where '06 has grill - once again to reflect newer model. something tells me perhaps the 94 octane i can get in canada & the cool nite air (it was 11:15 pm when i binned it - along w/ the more air allowed in airbox caused bike a bit of extra torque & - from the sound it made - hp as i attempted that near fatal wheelie. pirelli diablo's well scrubbed in .. i sit back in seat on xb12r & am 180 #s dressed up. |
