2003 XB9r has 12,000 mi Not more than 1k miles ago I adjusted steering nut torque. Last week I noticed when braking hard, at the front brake there was a violent shaking. I let off and reapplied the brake and it did it continued. Under light breaking there is a slight pulsation from the front end. I checked the isolator mount and it looked good. Still on original brake pads. |

Still on original brake pads. Replace pads before you need to replace the rotor, if it's not too late already. |

Check the brake rotor bushings. Is there a clicking sound associated with the shaking? |

mine did that too, had a warped front rotor, dont know why. tried refinishing the rotor with very crude means: high speed die grinder with abrasive pad, also replaced brake pads a couple times, and adjusted steering head bearings carefully (twice) finally replacing rotor cured the problem. dealer actua;lly WARANTEED the warped rotor. pretty cool i thought. |

Also check the steering head bearings. if they are not torqued properly, that will cause a vibration in the front end when braking. |

Remove the PADS and rugh them up(BRAKE THE GLAZE) on a concrete drive way ... Take BRAKE ROTOR CLEANER(cheapest you can get works just fine) and a clean rag and clean your ROTOR ... DO THIS BEFORE YOU MAKE A MOUNTAIN OUT OF A MOLE HILL ... |

I pulled the pads off and inspected them: inside pad thickness: 0.10 in. outside pad thickness: 0.07 in. Lines on the pads could still be seen. I roughed each pad up (scrubbing across concrete) and cleaned the rotor off with a strong cleaner. I'll test it tomorrow. |

The test ride went well. A slight pulsation when front brakes were first applied, lightly. No harsh vibration during heavy front braking. I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks! |
