I remember from a previous thread that the front is easy buy the rear needs some mystery spacers. |

Are the front ends of an XB really THAT much different than a tuber??? Or is it just the brake caliper mounting bracket??? I am sure there are more differences, but just looking at them, they look like the forks on my S3... Just thinking out loud.... |

Looks more like an XB-S model front end with the tubular bars and the lights. Don't the 12's and 9's run the same suspension? Discussion has previously suggested that swapping out the whole front end is the easiest method. Seems like the back required the mystery spacers mentioned by Seth. If it helps I have a 04 xb swing arm I can measure and compare to my 00 m2 swingarm's inside measurement for ya. |

Showa vs. WP, just look at the caliper mounting point; same diameter though (I think) should be able to use the same triple trees. Front end is easy enough, the real question which remains unanswered is just how the f**k do you mount the rear wheel?! Wheel + rear caliper mount + ? = the right amount of metal smooshed between the swingarm. …opposite spacer spec. anyone? |

...can you even use the stock tuber rear caliper and mount if you make the conversion? |

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/47623/159874.html?1141064149 The continuation on the above thread. It doesn't appear that the issues regarding the rear spacer(s) saw a resolution on the board. Prolly have to PM Eboos, SJH or Sanchez for more info. Seth, looks like you are still considering the mod as well (?) I wonder how an S1/M2 would look with XB wheels and a single sided swingarm from Al? (Saving my nickels and dimes for the swingarm now). I'd like to keep the X1 forks I have since they'll be getting re-valved and re-sprung this year... Anyone know the weight difference on the XB vs. tuber wheels? -Mike |

The overall conversion is pretty easy when you get all the parts needed. As stated in the previous thread, I have since acquired all parts and machined spacers to complete my conversion, but am waiting on my wheels to return. For the rear, two spacers need to be made, and the rear brake carrier needs to be machined. Stock caliper is used, XB rotor is used, and either XB or Modified stock pulley used. For the front, it really depends on what you are looking for. you can switch just the legs if you already have inverted forks. If you use the XBS triple trees you will have to cut off the top tab on the steering neck to clear the middle mouting tab on the trees as you steer. Anoter option in the front that was discussed, but I have no experience, would be to change the lower legs. After a long winter of gathering more parts, changing plans, and waiting on services; I plan to have this project completed in next few weeks. I will have pics as I assemble. |

Sorry, I have dropped my plans to do this mod due to cost. Right now my money is being spent on better riding gear, ergonomic upgrades, and track time. It is a shame though, I would really like to work this out just for the sake of doing something cool. Sjh, I am glad to see that you stuck with this project. |

SJH, one of the members of Brew City Brag wants to do the same conversion, to XB front end/brakes/wheels to his 2002 S3T. The front end seems simple. But aren't the fork legs outer diameter larger on an XB that the tubers? Also, do you have an other info you could share about the size of the spacers and such for the rear? |

I'll stick with my PMs thanks. For the cost/effort involved you'll make the bike tons better by doing a serious rear shock (Works or equivelent) valved to your body weight, esp. if said weight is either on the large or small end of the spectrum. Esp. if you already have an upside-down front (S1, S2, S3, X1, etc.). |

Yeah but in addition to reduced unsprung and rotating weight it looks hot and you get the swanky ZTL brake set up.

While PMs look nice(I've got a set on my S3T), I think I'd rather have the XB setup. Just think how a set of XB wheels, polished would look |

I was in the process of getting the wheels polished, but decided to cheat and get them chromed. After waiting about 2 mo. I recieved them today and was very impressed. The last bump in the road for me is getting the Xb dash wired. With a few events in the very near future, the pressure is on. |

Project update- Have everything except the XB speedo plug to convert dash. Most recent hold up has been my last minute decision to go with a 90" motor. Plan is to be complete by Road America first weekend of June. Pics will be posted along the way. |

Well the conversion is complete. I was able to get the motor finished and installed just in time to go to Road America. I went with the XB wheels, brakes, triples, dash, headlights. If using XB triple trees, the steering stem needs to be threaded further down and cut the excess off, or make a spacer. The other mod needed to use the XBS top tree was to cut the top tab off the frame on the steering neck. I also was able to convert the wiring to use the XB dash and everthing functioned properly. I will post pics later tonight. I do not know the best way to post and not use a large amount of server space. I took as many pics as possible until I quit and focused on getting it done in time. |
