Hello I just picked up a 2005 XB12R with 27 miles on her and I love it. Its thrust blue and is 100% stock for now. I'm really excited about this bike. It feels very comfortable compared to past sport bikes I have had a 2000 R1 being the most recent. I had a few questions at what mileage would you say these bikes are safely broken in? I want to add a pipe ecm and air kit what route do you all recommend? I already put on some pucks, what other mods do you all recommend for these bikes man I want to go ride. | ||

First off welcome. Second you will get a wide variation of thoughts on break in but my thought is that it is a small amount of time and mileage and you get a chance to learn the bike. I would suggest using this time to tune the suspension up. As far as mods well the exhaust is a big player but read past threads and keep an eye out for the Exhaust dyno competition this weekend. The best bang for the buck is Special Op's pipe IMO. I have a Jardine and would not do it again. It does not have a jack point and needs to be repacked. Get an open air box kit, a Special Op's heat blanket and have it tuned with Direct Link (no need for another ECM) and it you will get the most for the least. Just my .02 Bart | ||

wow what a welcome fast too. I like this site already. I was wondering If the Buell pro series is still a good option? I was wondering if you have any of the polished mufflers left for the xb12r they are sold out around here. Im leaning towards the pro series, but would like to hear others opinions. Your first "mod" should be a Service Manual and a Parts Manual. With those two things you will be a much more prepared consumer. | ||

the pro series exhaust is a discontinued, or soon to be discontinued piece. for pipes wait until the write up is finished for the pipe shoot-out happening this coming weekend. | ||

I second the recommendation to get the Service and Parts manual. Pretty cheap and worth their weight in Gold. Contact DaveS. He can send them to you. Bike is easy to work on, but there are a number of things unique to the bike, and if not done right will give yo grief later on | ||

Welcome and I might add (from my personal crusade): Suspension and tires! Spend time getting to know the bike through proper suspension setup and tire/pressure selection. You can chase down some of the few race kits still left out there but after that, get to know the suspension. You can get really confident on these XB-type bikes really fast IF you setup and adjust the suspension properly. | ||
