I don't know how experienced you or your friend are, but I'd suggest a riding school,

Like Pridmore's star school, Code's California superbike school, or Schwantz's suzuki school.

A fast RIDER rules in the twisties. equipment is less important than handling, within reason.


one liners:

Who cares about top end speed if you aren't at Bonneville?

At least I won't run into a dozen bikes JUST LIKE MINE at every starbucks.

Sure you've got more hp, but let's compare torque curves.

Let's go to bike night and compare the number of second looks our bikes get.

I wouldn't say anything, do like Diablo says then point out at the end of the night who got all the attention. The next day take him out to the twisties and show him/her what Buells were made for!

Why? They are very good bikes in their own right.

We live at a wonderful time to be riders. Almost every bike on the market is at least good, if not great.

He was just looking for ways to talk smack to his Buddy, not serious digs at the bike.

Yeah im just curious, the buell is a well rounded package to an extent. I would have thought that the buell at this point would be more popular. Just about every person i know with a jap bike loves my buell mostly for its looks, but are all turned off by the motor.

Guess thats the main reason the jap rides sell so well, the package is basically the same as the buell but the motors are perceived to be alot better bang for buck.

i meant an xb12 is a formidable weapon for the twisties if ridden properly.performance is close to that of a 600.

Snowhownd, the displacement thing has been covered in great depth, most recently in
connection with the XBRR in formula Xtreme. If you'll look at it from a diferent
point of view for a moment.

From a post I made earlier this year:

"I agree with Blake's earlier statement that the displacement rules should be based upon a more dynamic rather than static view.
ie...
600cc x 17,500rpm = 10,500,000
or
1340cc x 8000rpm = 10,720,000

not too different when viewed that way."

Add to that 4 valves per cylinder versus 2 and air cooling versus water. The match
is not bad at all. That's why the racing class is structured as it is. a 1200 is
actually giving up a bit to the 600 because this figure was for a 1340.

An RS125 or RS250 will spank both of them in the twisties.

Twisties have nothing to do with engine size.

If you ask me, the motor is one of the stronger points that I think Buell might lead people to buy a Buell. Its a V-Twin for crying out loud........sure there are quicker motors. But the Buell motor is relatively low maintenance. How about the sound, the torque, and not to mention that no other motor looks more in place on a bike than a V-Twin. How many other sport bikes do you know of that sound as deep and thumpy as a Buell. How many other sport bikes do you know of that let you stay in 3 or 4 gear as you are going thru twisties. We all can make our Buells go fast on straight-aways, just like a liter bike. But, I think most of us bought our bikes to ride corners. That is what Buells are made for. If you ask me, thier V-Twin is an extremely important part of making their bikes handle and perform the way they do.

that really isn't the point here. we are wandering way off topic again, and I
contributed to it. I apologize.

Every thread is becoming a pi55ing contest and it's getting ridiculous.

We need to get back on point. Grussy lives in Florida, and there aren't many tight
twisties in the state. I've never been to Del Ray Beach, but I'd venture a guess his
buddy will make a point of flaunting straight line speed. He was looking for witty
come-backs to shake his buddies confidence.

Am I anywhere close to the mark Grussy?

Who cares who is the fastest in a straight line. If you are racing around on the streets you are a dumba$$ anyways. Take it to the track, Jennings is in Northern Florida. If you are running any pipe other than stock you won't hear his bike or his trash talkin anyways.

Oh, I wholeheartedly agree that the Buell engine is where its at and do understand the mechanical difference between the two engines (at least at some level)... my point was just that said like 'my 1200 is as good as your 600' just sounds funny - not a very good "one-liner" as requested.

I still say take some classes. I don't care what the other guy was thinking but passing a Duck 749 on the way up a hill in the outside lane (passing zone) at over 90MPH was great fun. He was trying... I'm pretty sure he got the message.

Get your bike to a racetrack... Then you can at least say "The bullshit stops when the flag drops..."

My friend rides an R6 and is always comparing our bikes... All I say is you know what the R stands for? Ok, then. Plus my bike will make more torque at 2000 rpm than he is even capable of (read that somewhere, whether it is true or not... he buys it)

My boyfriend calls the typical metric bikes you see everywhere "me too" bikes.. "hey, I've got a suzuki, oh yeah? ME TOO! Hey, ME TOO"..etc..


Tell him be careful not to scrape his big honkin' exhaust on the pavement when he tries to corner like you can.

I have heard that one of the big draws of buying the popular bikes is, that instead of trying to get a loan, usually because they aren't able to (not everyone of course), they just make a package deal and open up a line of credit, credit-card style, and more people become eligible to buy them. Whereas when you buy a buell, unless you pay cash, you're gonna get a real bank loan.

Tell him you got the bike YOU wanted, and not one everyone else had just to be trendy. And that while the bike is as fun as being with a stripper, you can also take it home and have a great conversation with it..wait...no, that might seem a little weird..lol..
I dunno..forget the talking and just ride.. you have NOTHING TO PROVE! as long as YOU enjoy it! People usually tease about that which they are envious.

Oh yeah...if you're REALLY brave.. just let him ride it a bit...that's all the talking that needs to be done.

I have all the proof I need to know that my 9s with drummer open air box and Race ECM can hang with all the in lines around town, and in the corners. I have had a few resent stop light battles with some young hot heads, and buy the time I was hitting second they were still trying to get to the peak power of they first gear. I know I would have been passed at some point but it didnt make it that far. So for real deal street riding these motors are great!
