'00 X1. Replaced injectors last year when I had her running on only one cylinder, then everything was running perfect again. Just yesterday on my way home from work, I was cruising around 4k rpm and the engine light came on. I didn't hear anything different, and it was a beautiful day, not too hot so I slowed her down and took it easy going home. I turned her off at a stop light and it didn't come back on. This morning on my way in, I was riding for about 20 mins, got up to cruising around 4k and the engine light came back on. I slowed down to around 3k and cruised for a little bit and after about 5 mins. the light turned off,...upon acceleration back over 4k the light turned back on. What should I look for? |

what kind of oil are you using, I recommend synthetic, screaming eagle. check your oil level first. |

What? Sounds like FI/Sensor issue. Have you pulled any engine codes? Do a search of the Knowledge Vault. (Engine light code) What state is the battery in? A weak/dying battery can (reportedly) throw the FI off. DAve |

The fluids are normal, but I am not sure on the state of the battery. It starts up fine for me. The battery was replaced in the summer of '04 so it's possible that it may have weakened over the past MN winter. I did not keep a battery tender on her. I have not pulled any codes. Is there any way to do this without the Buell test unit? I have a service manual but it specifies that you need that tester unit. I rode her again today. Everything is fine cruising up to 3500rpm, but when I roll on up over 4000 the light comes on. If I back off immediately the light turns off. An interesting side note is that after I back off the engine light seems to stay on for however long it was ridden over 4k.....so if I rode it over 4k for 3 minutes it would take 3 minutes after I backed off to turn off. |

Alright, upon further inspection I have discovered that I have a broken header stud. I noticed a little bit of a rattle and leaking sound and sure enough. Would this be enough to set off the light? |

search the kv for engine codes, to retrieve codes takes a jumper and the ability to count flashes (easier than it sounds) sounds like your 02 sensor...it only comes into play over 3500 rpm, under that your running on the map. An exhaust leak will kill an 02 sensor, do a search , you can buy an equivelant from an auto parts store. |
