So after seeing this updated spec, I'm wondering--OK, at the factory, did they goonie the nut down as hard as assembly-line air pressure would allow, or would they have torqued it to the old, too-low spec? | ||

You have an 04 so it should be the old spec from the factory. You should re-torque as soon as you get the chance to avoid trouble later. The motors are assembled at the H-D motor plant in Milwaukee and they do use torque specs when assembling. | ||

I found out the hard way this weekend that the 06's aren't safe from this service alert. Mine came loose and made on hell of a noise. Took it to the dealer and they confirmed it, bike is in the process of being fixed. My bike was built in aug of 05, so everyone out there with anything older may want to watch out. | ||

I've looked at three (all 05's, mine included). None in my opinion were anywhere near loose. The force needed to loosen those nuts was considerable. Not sure what the problem was at the factory, but it's not inclusive of all. Between the three of us we spent near $100CDN on gaskets and seals. Could have gone out for steak and beers instead. |
