My son and I took a road trip to Big Bend National Park last weekend. Here are a few of my more presentable photos:

Started out at El Ranchito Chingadero, where I loaded up the Road_Sofa:

Then ran on to Austin, where Little_Thing lives, then on to the Hill Country:

(Paulinoz, recognize that shirt??)

Texas has some great roads and some beautiful scenery:

But every so often, you've just got to get out of the sun and relax!

Sunset in the Chisos Mountains:

Followed by a beautiful morning outside Marathon:

The local folks around Terlingua have their own sense of humor when it comes to naming their spreads:

The Rio Grande doesn't always live up to its name:

but the cliffs are impressive:

and Santa Elena Canyon is worth the trip:

On the way home, we found this funky old tourist court in Bandera:

With apologies to Satchel Paige: "Don't look back, you never know what might be catching up to you":

Nice stuff, RT.

I had no idea Texas had such varied and dramatic topography.

Thanks, gents!

Lornce: Texas ain't all beautiful, but Big Bend has to be one of the premier spots.

U4euh: Lots of restaurants on the main drag, now. Bandera Saloon seemed to be the hoppin' spot the night we were there, but it was just beer and a live band, no food. We ate at a place on the west side of the main street, kind of at the north end of town, it had a nice outdoor area under a balcony, but I don't remember the name.

Ferris: You're welcome. I still owe you, oh, let's say 5,000 great pictures and stories before we're even...

Paul: I'm looking forward to it. Are you an XL kinda t-shirt guy?

CJ: Thank you, ma'am, you're obviously a lady of great taste and discernment!

Bomber, that's the place. It's also revered worldwide as the home of the original chili cook-off and the site of some memorable debaucheries conducted by Mr. Jerry Jeff Walker...

Blake: Otis and I have vowed a return engagement, either in the fall or maybe next spring. Shall I put you on the roster?

Texas is....as they say "A Whole Other Country"....absolutley gorgeous.

My personal experience is that ANY time spent with the young'ens is time sell spent.

The problem is that FMJH, Henrik and Paul have warped my kids!

Bomber: Until your question I had never even considered the origin of the name, but "Terlingua" does kinda sound like "Three Tongues".

I'm gonna take a WAG: English, Spanish and Esperanto!

Now I'm gonna go try to Google up the answer!
