Well just when you thought mondays couldnt get any worse I join the wrong club to join. So I leave work and head back over to campus to do some school work when I meet a buddy of mine there who sez " Hey man, I just brought my 636 back up, take if for a spin" and me being dumb and 23 years old sez "sweet, ill be right back" Well I get like not even a mile and a half from campus, just going to start looking for a place to turn a round when I crest a hill at about anywhere form 40 to 50 ( hard to say, not my bike)and a jerk in a land rover pulls out in front of me. Well I lock up the brakes and keep it up right all the way to the grass and thru the grass for a little bit before I lowside it and plow thru a couple bushes and royaly mess up a bike thats not mine. (I feel like such a tool about it.) I instantly get out from under it and go out in the road to "wave" the guy back and then I put the bike back up on two wheels before everything starts to hurt and look to see what i have done. Well I took out the left lower plastics, turn signal and put a nice big dent in the tank. In other words I just watched all the graduation money I might get go by-by. the guy did turn around to see if i was ok but he said "let me go get my info" and took off again. Not that the cops would have done anything anyway. man this really stinks. At the time I felt ok and told the cop that showed up (after the home owner called him cause he cared more about his yard and bushes then me) but like 2 hours after and it hurting real bad and my mom telling me to go get it looked at I did.....and after sitting for almost 5 hours in ER I broke my sholder blade and not the normal way like a popsicle stick but the hard way as the doc said, like delaminating it. Honestly I thought a broken bone would hurt a lot more but it does tickle quite a bit. WHAT A BAD DAY. I dont know what else to say really other then its so much worse cause its not my bike. But what can I do, ill pay for it all and thats all I can do I guess. Ok, off the soap box, I just needed to get that all out. |

Hope you heal quickly. All you can do for your buddy is be a "stand-up" guy. Sounds like you're already doing that. |

By saying let me get my information, the Land Rover driver admitted fault. It's been a few years since I took any legal courses, but I believe you have up to 7 years to file a civil claim. Keep an eye out for this truck again. It's up to you, but I would contact my own insurance company on this matter. |

Did you get his plate or anything? Surely there can't be that many Rovers if you are in a college town. I would nail his ass to the wall for fleeing the scene of an accident. His fleeing after telling you he would get his info should be enough to stand up in court and cost him the repairs, medical bills and your pain and suffering from him being an ! Glad to here you were okay, and the bike isn't totaled! Go after that MFer! |

It does hurt to read... sorry about the incident. I don't think you can do much to the guy legally if he doesn't admit to any fault in court. It is your words against his since you have zero proof. |

Go to the junk yard and purchase something that will survive long enough on the road to "pull out" in from of the Rover... |

I broke my shoulder blade in a bike wreck over three years ago. In the process of braking that bone it damaged muscle that to this day still causes me problems. It's sad. But you might have came out better just hitting the Land Rover. At least then it would have been his insurance that would anny up. FCKUped that the law is the way it is. I'll never attempt to miss... Just full brakes and keep upright. even if its into the cager. |
