Has anyone converted a fuel injected Buell to carburetor and could share advice? I have a '99 S3 Thunderbolt, and when it is running well, I love it. Trouble is I have had an unbelievable amount of trouble with electrical issues. To date I have had the bike in the dealer about ten times. I have replaced one wiring harness, one coil, two ecm's, one fuel pump, and had my throttle position sensor recalibrated a half dozen times. Every time I get the bike back it runs well for about 1000 miles before it starts coughing, stumbling, losing power, misfiring, etc, etc. After spending $1200 on the last repairs I once again had 1000 happy miles and now more coughing and erratic running. Now I don't even want to know what the problem is, I just want to ditch my efi and go to a carburetor. Question is, can I simply replace the fuel tank with a petcock type and replace the throttle body with a carb, or do I have to switch wiring harness and more. Any help much appreciated. |

I think you may be on to something. I picked up my 2000 X1 with 53 miles on it two days ago. And ALREADY it has no power above 3500 RPM, and the check engine light is on. I'm not a mechanic, but I can fix it if I know WHAT to fix. From reading the posts, I know it could be just about anything. My dealership can't get me in until June, and I can't wait that long! (Half of the Harley dealerships in the Greater Milwaukee Area tell me they no longer work on Buells.) I'm quickly losing confidence in my NEW bike. Does Buell have a tech line? Can we get them to open one? I'd pay by the minute if they could help me diagnose my bike. Just having someone available who knows Buells, and what stuff goes wrong could help riders AND Buell. Does anyone in the room have the knowledge to walk a new rider through the diagnostic process? -bromikl |
