HI here is my problem
Bike starts and idles at around 1050 rpm
After I ride it on the highway for a couple of minutes, the rpm doesn't drop below 2000 (if I pull the clutch in or slow down). This also happens at red lights. The only way to bring the rpm down at a red light is to keep it in first gear and let the clutch out just enough to where it starts pulling. This brings the rpm back to normal. Then I can pull the clutch back in and put in in neutral.
Any idea on what the problem is here ??
The only mod to the bike is a D&D pipe.

Was the D&D just installed? If so, did you have the TPS reset? |

No it came with the bike .I got the bike at auction so i don't know it's history.
Just ran a check for trouble codes and got code 21 ( interactive muffler control) would that have something to do with it ? |

I think you are getting the interactive muffler control error because the D&D exhaust doesn't have an interactive exhaust valve and your stock ECM is looking for one. You may want to look into a race ECM or getting some sort of servo emulator to fool the ECM. Maybe call DaveS at Appleton or Al at American Sport Bike (check the sponsor area).
My guess is the stock ECM is causing a lean condition. This can cause a fast idle. You may want to try getting the TPS reset and see if it helps. |

Adjust your idle set screw down a hair. It's located at the front of the engine -- near the air scoop. Looks like a small knob facing the front of the bike. You can use the Torx wrench that came in your toolkit (or a 3/16" allen wrench) to adjust it. It's pretty easy to get the idle adjusted just a tad high and what you are experiencing is the result.

Well I adjusted the idle screw down a little and it seems to be running good.

i have this same problem on my 02 X-1. had it looked at last week. local cycle shop said it was an intake leak. he showed me this by spraying contact cleaner near the intake manifold. this caused the idle to come down back to normal. this should not happen. intake manifold should not be sucking in air outside of the airbox. |
