I see alot of guys that look like they have a mount on their bike for their helmet, I havent found anything secure enough to leave my Shoei just laying around. I am fairly new to street bikes. What am I missing? What do you do with your helmet if you dont carry it with you? | ||

I'll usually leave my Scorpion hanging from the passenger peg on either side, depending how I am parked. If I am going into a restaurant or something like that I will take it in with me. Its not likely another biker would steal your stuff, but some punk ass kid just might! I've thought of mounting a Uly helmet lock on my Firebolt, but all they got to do is cut a strap and its theirs, whatever. | ||

I have a pretty thick coated steel cable w/ combination lock on it that fits under my seat (barely). I think it is a six footer. If I'm going inside somewhere for a while I run the cable through the frame of the bike and through the sleeve of my leather jacket and through the helmet. Yes, someone can get some giant bolt cutters and have them if they really want, but there won't be any quick grab happening. I feel pretty secure and think its worth taking the extra few minutes to do this - so I'm not obsessively wondering the whole time I'm in eating or shopping or whatever that someone has ripped off my stuff. Also if I spend the night in town (at a friends or something) and leave the bike outside I'll strap the bike to a pole or something - gives me a little more peace of mind. | ||

I hang mine on the passenger peg and use a gun lock cable thru the chin guard and visor to secure it. | ||

With the HJC, I usually open the visor and slip it over one of the mirror stalks. That seems to mess up the breath deflector on the scorpion, so I hang it on the passenger peg. If I'm leaving the bike someplace I'm worried about theft, I'll lock them up. Either with the helmet lock on the Uly, or if the g/f is with me, I'll use a bicycle cable. I run it through the visors of both helmets and through the frame of the bike. The bicycle cable is fairly long, so I can thread it through a sleeve of my jacket as well. This lets me walk around w/o carying or worrying about any gear.  (Message edited by jlnance on June 24, 2006) | ||

i use the helmet cable thats in the tool cit and place the loops around the seat latch stud, then put the seat back on...no wayis anyone gonna steal it unless they remove the seat. | ||

I hang it on the Driver's peg, down low, out of sight, out of mind, hopefully. But I have no nice custom paint and I drop it on the ground all the time so it's pretty scratched on the outside shell. I always buy the cheaper helmets, especially now after Motorcyclist blew the lid off the SNELL Certification. I get a a new one every other year or so. | ||

I carry mine with me unless I have a secure place to stash it inside the place I'm visiting. (Homecoming was a notable exception) I just don't trust people to do the right thing. After all they feel no sense of wrong-doing about sitting on other people's bikes without asking first, and that's a common thing. Some people see an Arai helmet and a leather jacket unattended on a bike with just a cable lock as a gift for them. all they need is a pair of hawk-bill cable cutters and most cable locks will cut just a little harder than tissue paper. IF they do it the hard way. We all know that most people will do their best NOT to get involved in a crime in progress. The criminals know this. They COUNT on it. Very few crimes happen without witnesses. Isn't it odd that so many go unsolved? Anyway. Locks only keep the honest people out. That's a fact. | ||

I have a 3 foot cable with a key(ebay $9). I usually put it on my passenger pegs. usually always. | ||

You do realize the e-clip that holds the peg on can be popped off and the pin pulled in seconds. I wouldn't anchor anything to a part that can be removed that easily. That's just me though. If it works for you it's all good  | ||

When they do that then they have a nice helmet with no way to strap it on, I guess they could take it to a shoe repair shop to get the strap fixed... but that implies a little too much "smarts" for your average low-life, snitching thieves.  (Message edited by CURTYD on June 24, 2006) | ||

i carry mine...all the time..had some putz get my soumy..so now my lid goes with me when i get off....isnt that what girlfriends are for...carryin the helmets and jackets...oooh and gettin the beers. | ||

I found a nice little universal helmet lock at a Harley shop in Ft. Worth. They advertise Buell on the web site but only had 2003 Blast Manuals (3) and a Buell sparkplug, but thats another thread.  Part # 45732-86 $17.95.   It works great, easy to install, and the price was right! | ||

I am not sure if this will works on your lightning long.... On my 9S. Take seat off. Take the seat strap off and put on garage shelf or in circular file. Now put D-ring from helmet over the post that the seat slides on to. Put seat back on. Your helmet strap will be exactly where your seat strap was. Locked helmet. Easy. Free. | ||

XB12X Uly: At the Rock Store or other moto-hangouts, the mirrors, but I only own Buell Redlines and if I owned the more $$$ (why?) brands we'd carry them around. Anywhere else, the sidecases, which doesn't help Lightning/Firebolt people. Buckstar that's a cool part, thanks for the tip. | ||

Most of the time I don't leave mine on the bike. If I"m close I'll hang it on the right passenger peg. If I"m worried about it I"ll hang it on the passenger peg and run a lock thru the peg and d-ring... If I"m expecting to lock it I carry the lock on a belt loop...I keep a set of four master locks in the back of the truck for locking stuff up so I just grab one of them... Kevin | ||

Buckstar, After reading this thread, I picked up the same lock. It works great. I put it on the left side due to the bike lean when on the side stand (rests less on the bike). The dealership never heard of anyone putting that lock on a Buell. | ||
