Did another 200 miles yesterday bringing the total to around 700. When I first got the bike, I could hear what I thought was piston slap..you heard it when backing off the throttle. After yesterdays run it is considerably worse, and REALY rattles..this is not piston slap..sounds like someone shaking a can of marbles !..and sounds worse when the bike is on the over run, neither pulling nor coasting. What's your take on it ? Thanks.. Mike PS. the bike goes in the shop this coming Friday for it's 1000 mile service. If it is the primary chain, I hope it's not a frequent adjustment..should be more like 7000 miles before you hear it, not 700. | ||

mine used to sound like a ringing sound. Kinda like someone put a bell next to my tranny. If this is your chain it may be too loose or tight. From what I hear, HD techs have a tendency to over tighten the primary. The sound is gone on my bike now and has been gone for sometime. Just ride it, youll notice Buells can make some funny noises at times, I learned to get over them and have had 13,000 trouble free miles so far.  | ||

Primary Chain 3/4 inch on the tight spot, COLD, "PERIOD" !!! If the chain wears into the PLASTIC of the ADJUSTING "SHOE ASM." any at all(should only see just slight drag marks), the PRIMARY CHAIN is being adjusted "TOO TIGHT" !!! | ||

I have found that the best way to fix engine noises in the Buell is to get a LOUDER PIPE!! | ||

My 97S3T as of the last ride has 88,514.3 miles and would be at Race Clearances in the engine by now ... Has go fast noises now !!! | ||

a loose primary chain will sound like someone snuck a wooden marble into your tranny. Bike will feel sloppy too like a [final drive] chain style bike. | ||

Been running my "PRIMARY CHAIN" at 3/4 inch from the day after "i" picked it up from the Dealer ... "i" do not "LUG" my engine, keeping the RPM's between 2500 and 3000 ... | ||

My 06 XB12R started to make a sound that reminded me of a rod knock and with less than 700 miles on it i was worried. What it turned out to be was a loose primary sprocket. haven't had a problem since the dealer fixed it. (Message edited by tiburondriver47 on April 09, 2006) |
