I just hit 1200 mi. on my Uly. Been able to ride to work every day for the last 2 weeks. Had some early oil changes ala motoman break-in so I have'nt got around to scheduling my TPS reset at the dealer. My gas milage is picking up a little (40 mpg at yesterday's fill up) but the fan is running constantly if I ride over 70 mph. I've been riding in low 30 degree temps at times and it still runs all the time. I've been reading that the fan runs less after break-in.

Now I'm going to hijack my own thread. I couldn't figure out how to start a new one on the thumper page. What's the best deal anyone has made on a new Blast? My dealer told my wife he would give her to "2 bike discount" as he just sold me my Uly in February. I know there are cheap used ones out there ( my nephew just paid $1800 for a nice '02 for his wife), but I'm having a hard time finding one. My wife is in love with this '06 black Blast. I haven't listened to his "deal" yet cause I want to know where to start the neg. Thanks in advance.

Tim

The fan will run on the freeway you're putting a lot of load on the engine at hiway speeds! It's normal mine does it too thats even with the race ecm. I'll go for a hiway rip fan will come on then after about 5-10 min of driving at city speeds it shuts off. I wouldn't be concerned.

3500 miles. Third tank of fuel after switching to Castrol Syntec. Morning temps ~30-50*f, afternoons 50-70. Fan doesn't seem to run any less now than when it was new. Only one time have I ever heard it shut off after it had started; day before yesterday riding home in the rain at slower than normal speeds. I live only 1.5 miles from the freeway, so maybe if I rode it farther on surface streets after leaving the freeway it would cool enough to shut off.

Repeat after me...

"The fan is a good thing. The fan is a good thing."

It's supposed to run. It's keeping the rear cylinder cooler. That's good. Don't worry unless it stops running. Then be concerned.

OK, "The fan is a good thing. The fan is a good thing." Thanks guys. I won't listen to my fan today. I'll worry about my rusting stock muffler instead.

Fastfxrs,

Just had my local dealer (over in England) agree to replace my rusted muffler under warranty. Apparently Buell have agreed there IS a problem with them so no hassle about getting it done.

I have a standard Drummer,K&N filter, race kit ECM,the Trogan (carbon) right side scoop and about 2600 miles, my fan only comes on when I shut the motor down. This is not counting when it came on while stuck in traffic at Daytona during bike week, but it shut off six miles after hitting the open road. I like the idea that it's running hot enough for the fan to come on at shut down, but not so hot as to have it come on during normal riding. I like the peace of mind the scoop gives me.

Won't the engine shut down if it gets to hot?

i havent heard of any bikes over heating, and i thought for sure when i was in holister that my bike would over heat. in that damn line of bikes with my ollady on the back, my legs were burning up from the fan blowing, but the bike was fine, if my bike was gonna over heat, it would have done it that day. i wouldnt worry at all.

I was thinking of going with 100% antifreeze instead of 50/50.......

The underside of my right leg likes when the fan comes on!

Hey Morticia, how bad was the rust? Mine is pretty rusty around the weld on the outlet and along most of the outlet itself. I haven't looked the rest of the muffler over that well yet. Does the new muffler have a better finish on it that will keep it from rusting right away? Thanks in advance.

Hi Tim, Yes, mine seems to have rusted in much the same way, all around the outlet and in fact the whole rear 6 inches or so of the main muffler body. Havn't seen the replacement muffler yet, just been told its arrived so I've got to book in to have it replaced now. If its no better and the new 1 rots as fast then they are just gonna have to keep replacing them, I know mines not the only 1 being replaced under warranty.

ElectraGlider,

The engine won't shut off if it gets too hot but the engine light will come on and it will go into a skip mode until the engine cools off enough... Not sure what skip mode is but I am guessing that it fires the spark plugs every other time or something such.

I read about this in the manual but have never experienced it.

Happy Trails.

no one would care if it was running id the noise was not so loud it draws attention, and not in a good way.
