I've never used a fancy dial type timing light. I need to buy one and retard my timing 1-2 degree's. However all the timing guns I find only show a range of 0-60 degree's. I need to retard thus be in the negative...? what brand model of timing light do you use? | ||

The Snap-on digital is the best made imho. Simple stuff.... If your vehicle is timed at 16 deg before top dead centre (btdc), with a digital gauge you can set the gauge at 16 deg thus allowing you to read the timing at 0 deg on the adjacent timing mark. Your timing is still at 16 deg, but you are now reading it at 0 deg on the flywheel, as the 16 deg is in the timing light. You should see the timing marks much easier this way, as less fluctuation is likely seen when reading at 0 . So if you want to advance or retard your timing by 2 deg from 16 deg, with a digital gauge you can advance or retard the gauge to 14 or 18 deg, and still read your timing marks at 0 deg. whats the spec timing for a Buell? I just know that when I installed my twintec. I put it on TDC mark. | ||

Nevermind above post I checked the twintec manual...  at 1000rpms my timing is at 18 BTDC Now I just need to find a loaner timing light! |
