I just purchased an 03 XB9S. Since I did not get a manual or any kind of records on it. What I like to know are the following: What fuel grade should I use? What oil weight is needed? What is the air filter model# ? Can I get this air filter at my local car part store? Last.. On the bottom plastic farring that is down where the oil filter is , is cracked. Anyone here know how much it would be to replace it? Thanks a bunch for any help. -Newbie |

Step 1: Order the owners manual and service manual. For fuel, premium is recommended i.e. 91 octane. Ethanol is ok. For oil, do a search, this is a fight waiting to happen, but factory it comes with 20w-50. For air filter, part number is P0213.02A8 and retial is about $26.00 I doubt you can get it at a car parts store. I would order the Race Filter and call it a day, it will cost more, but is washable. The part number is 29388-02YA retail $65.00 For the lower (chin) fairing it is actually 3 pieces so....if you are needing the right side it is roughly $44 retial. Don't forget to upgrade the belt and pulleys. Order it now so it is on hand when yours breaks. |

WoW!! Thanks you two for the fast response. I just got the bike and been out of the game since I was 18yrs old. Never ever owned a street bike and this was my 1st. Its great to get that nice feeling again. Now I can put my Diamond Back mountain bike up . As for race filters, I saw one one ebay. Are you talking about the K&N kind? Skyguy- as for the pulleys and belts are they common to break very easy? What about tools. Since I did not get any w/ the bike. Will the one that Buell sales provide me to replace items like this? What main tools should I have at all times? I did have to replace the 1st front sparkplug over by the #1 head below the gas tank, b/c it was foul out bad. notice by taking off the cover of the tank was not the proper way of getting to the sparkplugs BTW, lol. So I saw the air filter and it was sick looking. But thanks for anymore advise. newbie-out. -Mike |

Hey Mike that I don't think that filter will fit. It is for a different model I believe. Go in to the sponsors section and seek out any of the shops on that area of the badweb. These guys can give you all of the prices and part numbers for the products you are looking for. They will also recommend some tools that would be good to have on you at all times. Some torx wrenches would be a good start, and then after that just your basic standard tool set. |

Oh yeah, and on the belt issue. Ride on yours till you see signs of wear. If you are not finding signs of wear or missing teeth it will be fine. If you end up with some extra cash in your pocket and you are looking for some piece of mind pick up the 04 pulley conversion and the 06 belt. The 06 belt is the strongest belt available for these bikes and it will fit the 04 pullies. I have an 04 12R with the 06 belt on it, and it is a beefcake compared to my 04 belt that broke at 7K, and the 04 belt is a beefcake compared to the 03. That conversion kit is available from all of the sponsors I think. It all depends on riding style and how well the belt has been taken care of. Some of the guys here in KC have the 03 updated belt and it is just fine. I like to beat the out of my bike and I ride a lot of 3rd gear wheelies. I'm sure that had a lot to do with the failure of my belt so early. |

Thank you all. I was amazed how much parts costed on my Buell, which btw is not much as I expected. Daves... I need a filter. I perfer one that will be kept as a reuseable kind. Can ya hook me up? Thanks |

For tools you'll need standard and metric wrenches, and allen wrenches. standard plugs are 5/8" the race plugs are 11/16". a t-27 and t-40 torx wrench are needed, also a 7/8" allen wrench, or socket is also needed. ( a cheater trick is to reverse a plug socket with a 7/8" hex on it onto an extension and use that for your axles) |
