I wanted to get some heavy bar ends for my Ulysses so I got in touch with Steve at HVMP. I had heard about their heavy weight bar ends from the V-Strom forum. When I spoke to him, he told me he had not made them for the Buell yet but I offered to do some measurements and beta-test them for him. About a month later, this is what he has to offer and they look and work great. The install is very easy and they can be used with or without the stock hand-guards thanks to a separate nylon spacer that goes onto the stainless 8mm retaining bolt. The finish on these stainless weights is perfect. I think they are about 15 ounces each, which is heavy for a bar weight, but that is why they work so well. They do stick out a lot but not further than the hand-guards when viewed from the front, because the hand-guards flare out from the bars. I don't think they would make any difference in lane splitting which was one of my biggest concerns when I first saw them. They really smooth things out at idle and 2000-3000 rpm where I was feeling a lot of vibration. At speed they also make a nice difference as everything is smoothed out. The image in my mirror is much better now throughout the RPM range. Also, in decel, I used to get a resonant point where I would feel a hard vibration in the bars. Sometimes I would remove my hands and could see maybe .25" to .375" oscillation. This is much better now, probably twice as good. I wonder if this decel vibration was contributing to the steering wandering that we have been hearing about. I had an issue with this and it seems to be less of an issue now that these are on. If you are interested in a set, contact Steve at HVMP. I think they are going to be about $55 plus $7 shipping. I am very pleased with mine. www.hvmp.com Here are a few links to the photos. http://img111.imageshack.us/img111/1848/barend19rv.jpg http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/4517/barend28cq.jpg http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/7831/barend36zs.jpg |

Very nice! I see you're using the BMW sport grips too. I'm using them on both my FJR and my wife's FZ6. Ya got Dual-Star heating elements under 'em? |

I like those grips. They go on easy and stay put with alcohol. I do have heating elements under them with a heatroller installed up front. The bar weights finished it all off perfect. |

I'm so intrigued by the new Uly that I'm contemplating selling my '04 FJR. I've been wondering if there's a way to integrate the handguards and a Throttlemeister. |

I sold my '04 FJR for a Uly. Haven't regretted it. I do miss the monster motor, but in all honesty, the Ulysses is MUCH faster when the going gets twisty. |

Speedstar - thanks for the good review. Look for other applications in the future. BTW they weigh almost 18 ounces with the hardware. Thanks. |

Roadrailer - they are in limited supply right now. The full production run should be complete in a month or two, but some inventory may be available now. |

I'd like to get a set of those myself. |

Couldn't you just fill your handle bar with small lead shot? That would seem to be an alternative. |

Electraglider - that would provide some beneift, but the ideal position of the extra weight is as far outboard as is possible for maximum effect. |

Lead shot wouldn't look as cool as those weights either. I wonder if you could attach bar-end mirrors to the weights. |

Me being the cheap-is-always-better kinda guy has an answer for that. I'd just pound a rubber stopper back equally on each side and then fill each side with the lead shot. I personally don't have a mirror vibration problem with my ULY. Seems pretty steady to me. Not perfect mind you, but good enough. |

speedstar thanks for the post what were the measurements you got from your bars? I wonder if the barends he fashioned for you will work on my xb clip-ons. |

I filled my bars all the way full of lead shot, much better, less shaking in the mirrors. |

Lead shot can change the resonant frequency of the handlebars, but in my opinion it adds unnecessary weight. It is generally accepted that putting weight outboard is the most effective and efficient way to change the resonant frequency. Lead is also very toxic, especially to children and their still developing nervous systems. Also, lead shot won't protect your levers if the bike falls over. |

I just ordered a couple of sets. Be sure to get the extra heavy if you want to keep the handguards. |

Got mine yesterday. Wasn't really bother by the vibs but did want clearer mirrors. Exceptional service (saved me from ordering the wrong thing ) and terrific quality. The installation was super easy and they are very effective at reducing vibrations. The mirrors are completely usable at anything close to legal speeds. They do stick out a bit past the guards, but I'll get used to it. Completely satisfied. fubar |

Got mine from Steve before the Baja trip. Man! What a difference, the lead helped, but the bar ends completely removed any vibrations from the bars!!! Should be a factory item, or at least a factory option. |

don't worry about them sticking out past the guards. it will save you from buying levers the first time you drop your bike. |
