Well I've been able to put about 100 miles on the Uly since picking up registration and plates this past Thursday and thought that I'd leave a little post here. I really like this thing! It's totally different than anything that I've ever owned before, all sport bikes, but really enjoyable. I'm not going to comment on all of the typical things that people have noticed about these bikes, steering lock, windscreen, etc, etc. I decided long before I picked up the bike that I was going to do the Motoman method of break in and had purchased 6 liters of oil and two filters so that I'd have them on hand. I put about 40 miles on it before I did the first oil change and boy was that an experience! I swear that the factory must've used an entire bottle of red loctite on each screw that holds the chin fairing on! I couldn't believe how difficult is was getting those 7 fasteners out and I damned near screwed two of them up. I'm going to order a complete set of them from Daves just to have on hand. I've never been real happy with torquex fasteners and this thing is covered in them! I also installed the luggage and rode with them after I did the oil change, didn't notice that the were there. I am also planning on ordering a taller windscreen just to be able to move the air coming off of the front of the bike up just a bit. I wouldn't mind it as is but on a longer ride I think that it would get tiring. I love the way that the motor just pulls and spins up relatively quickly but I would like to smooth out the throttle response, it's a bit difficult to ease the gas on; is this just typical of Buell's or will it get better with mileage/age? this thing is going to be great, if/when the weather gets a bit better here in Belgium. | ||

Thesmaz, congats on the new uly! If yours is like mine it will smooth out after getting some miles on.I'am used to ridding pumped up harleys and sportsters so I thought the uly was smooth from the beginning but it keeps getting smoother with more miles.You will also notice a gain in power after you get it broke in.I know what you mean about the fasteners,using good quality tools will help in preventing stripping one, but no guarentee.I went with a taller cee bailys windshield and am pleased with it. The more I ride this bike the more I love it. Good Luck with yours. | ||

I'll 2nd the vote for good quality tools for the torx fasteners. I had some craftsman torx bits that didn't work well and chowed those screws. I ordered the replacements from Daves. I also ordered this which IMHO is the best $9 I've spent on tools in a long time: http://www.wihatools.com/364soft.htm To start the torx end fits way better than the craftsman bit. It goes in deeper and seems almost tapered. It took out the screws that were hopeless with the craftsman bit. The short end has great leverage, the T end allows quick removal/install. I also ordered some of their T27 screwdriver bits. Wiha stuff has proven to be top notch for me in the past and this is no different. |
