I can't get my low seat to engage the latch mechanism at the rear of the seat. I have progressively shimmed it with no luck. I now have two washers under the latch mechanism and I can just catch a thread or two on the bolts. Any ideas?

Hello BB,

My Buell Low Seat required some "persuasion" to get it to latch. Almost as if the seat pan need to form to the shape. I had to work to ensure the various tabs were properly seated.

I haven't had it off since. I'm hoping by the time I do it will have molded itself somewhat to the proper shape.

Regards,

Jim in Santa Barbara

I installed mine on Saturday and mine was hard to latch at first. I had to push down pretty hard after making sure it was pushed all the way forward. After my wife and I rode together on Sunday it now latches just fine. Try using a little force and see if you can get it to latch. I didn't need any shims and you shouldn't either. Make sure the seat is into all the proper alignment first.

Brotherbuell, my low seat wouldn't latch either. I thought it was defective! I then made a fist and whacked it pretty hard a couple times. It needed some persuasion. After having it off and on a few times it now latches fine. I put the original seat on Saturday and they go on the same now.

Ditto. I have to give my low seat a good beating to get it to latch also.

Thanks all. I'm thinking that it may have had something to do with the fact that is was about 22 degrees when I tried to install it. First day of Spring my a$$!

Well, I tried beating it into submission but it didn't help. I finally had to loosen the latch bracket and leave it attached by one or two threads. I was able to gently guide the seat hook into the latch and then pull it down with the torx head screws. I hope that leaving it on for a while will form the seat into position as suggested in the threads above.

I have had the plastic tabs break on two seats and now this. I wouldn't hold this design up as an example of Buell quality.

Mine wouldn't latch -- wouldn't come close. The standard seat goes on and off very easily.

I took the seat back to the dealer and he tried it on another Uly and it wouldn't fit so he took it back and ordered me a new one. The new seat has a new part number so he was thinking there was change in design.

I won't be able to able to pick up the new seat until this weekend. I'll let you know if it is any better.

I picked up my new Low Seat last night and it fits fine. It takes a normal firm push to latch. I could jump up and down on the old one and it didn't come close to latching.

There must have been a problem with some of the early low seats. If yours doesn't fit, take it back to the dealer and have them try it on another bike. Check the part numbers: the new seats have a new part number.

Thanks Jim. Unfortunately my seat has the new part number so this Gremlin is still lurking.
