How much time should a dealer charge to install the luggage, just bags and also bags and topcase? Thank you | ||

They charged me 2.25 hrs @ $75/hr. When I complained, they said it was the techs first time. He "may" have been a little slow. Hindsight, I should have done it myself. | ||

ask real nice and they will probably do it for nothing if you bought your bike and parts there. | ||

Anything over an hour and you're being screwed. I did mine in the carport in 45 minutes, and I even had a few fitment problems. | ||

I ride an XB9R, love the XB12X though. I was asking for the dealership I work at. They ask me all of these things because I am the "Buell Man". Sales guys bring customers to me, parts people send customers to me, and if I'm in the building I find the people in service and talk to them. I'm not really good with H-D yet so everthing works out. It ended up costing the customer $60, that may have been a special deal though. (Message edited by roc on March 28, 2006) | ||

It took me about 30 min. to mount my Uly side bags. The lower bracket hole was difficult to line up with the passenger peg bracket and took some persuasion with a bar to slightly bend it. They sure are nice bags. I haven't had any latch or weather strip problems yet. Tim | ||

It took me less than an hour for the 3 cases/brackets. I would expect a "certified Buell technician" would be faster and better than little old me. | ||

I just play one on the web. In reality every simple fix turns into a major production in my house. Went to change the toilet valve assembly and cracked the tank...had to buy a whole new toilet as they don't sell the big tanks anymore.  | ||

you guys are gonna love this one.... well i tried to mount the saddlebags sat. to no avail... i do agree the job should take less than 45 min... but the fit problems happened with my set as well.... with a little bending and drilling problem solved... called buell monday to give some input .. I explained that a few other riders had the same problem and fixed the hangers is somewhat the same manner... I was informed that buell does not take the postings on this web site seriously.... then got a cal later in the day from buell stating that there is nothing wrong with the brackets .. just the set of instructions that were sent with them... now you must loosen the passenger foot peg and work from there back ..... then tighten all.... well i had about 3/4 to an inch overage on length and a bit high... somehow cranking down on it is supposed to fix the problem.... i was also informed that engineers and many techs. worked on the product and never had a problem installing the said saddlebags.. i was then chastised for altering the product.... I guess the true buell adventure begins at corporate HQ | ||

I followed Slayers advice from a previous post; "Ut, oh Crusty, now you have done it! Duck! Incoming Black Uly remarks. Btw, I did not have to fool with my foot peg brackets. Just ran all the new bolts in and out of their threaded holes without the brackets. Then installed both bag brackets along with the cross brace very loosely, adjusting each as needed until all bolts fitted into their holes. Then removed each bolt one at a time, applied "Locktite", reinstalled and tighten fully. PIECE OF CAKE! I notice that it helped to handle both brackets at their bottom rear corner to align the foot bracket bolts. Shoved bracket up and back, plus in or out as needed at that rear lower corner. Was a big help to align bolt!" 20 minutes, 1 beer, no peg removal, no bars, no problem. | ||

i just called buell back... wanted to be the bigger person.. told them to cancel the new brackets they were sending me ( a shame gift i guess)... i didnt have the same luck as you guy... although i did try different installment procedures... all loose starting from back to front then middle bolt then tride a scathing verbal peptalk .... all is well i will carry my "altered product" with me as a badge of honour now.... they do look good on the bike ... hell of a lot of spce too... i have already kissed my fence post with one on way to work... not used to the fat hips on the bike yet.... cheers... ride Virginia when yall get a chance..... | ||

Took me about 2 hours as I looked at the directions wrong(dyslectic) and tried to put the left bracket on the right etc....senior moment. The right side bracket took a little dremel tool work to egg out the hole. it was off center. Not hard to do, when you are not in a hurry. | ||

I'm starting to wonder if Buell is altering production tooling and/or methodology, w/o letting anyone in on it. I'm seeing a lot of very different takes on the very same conditions. Frankly, the quality of the posts I read here leads me to believe that, in general, we're a fairly competent bunch, so why are things like, oh, luggage brackets - working so differently? I'm an architect, not an engineer dammit! Thoughts? | ||

Mounted the top and side cases today. It is very easy. I took my time and studied the instructions before starting. I don't think it took me more than a couple of hours. That was only because I was re-reading the instructions as I went. If I had to do it again, I could easily do it in 30 or 45 minutes. Bags are HUGE! Top case is a little smaller. Mounts look like crap, but that's because all my previous bikes had integrated mounts for the bags, not hideous tube frame mounts. Yuck! Oh well, as soon as I get them loaded down and do some long rides I'm sure I'll see their beauty. |
