Not looking at starting another dreaded "oil thread" but would like to know what others are doing. I have always waited for the 5K service to switch from dino to synth on Evos and Twinkies. Thots on this motor/trany? fubar |

I did dino at 1k and switched to synthetic at 2k. I won't say why. I just did it that way. |

I'm using Redline synthetic. Their website and their bottles specifically say to wait 3000 miles before using their product. So....I am. |

I changed oil (all dino) at 50, 500, & 1000 miles. I switched to synthetic at 2500 miles. I continue to run Formula+ (which I think is dino) in the transmission. |

My view is that if you switch to synthetic at 1000 miles you will stop all the engine components from bedding in properly. I cant tell you what the best mileage is to do it at but 1000 miles has to be way too early |

If you followed the Motoman method then you understand the rings are already seated and therefore synthetic would be okay. Some machines come with synthetic right from the factory. |

Sorry to show my ignorance Thunderbox but who is Motoman and which machines come with synthetic straight from the factory? |

I don't know about bikes but some cars do like the Corvette, certain Benz models and BMW. If you really want to know about motomans method you have to go to www.mototuneusa.com he explains his method there which has enjoyed much discussion on this and many other sites. |

I went to synthetic at 1k miles and haven't looked back. I have no idea how it's affected the break-in or the seating of the rings, but the bike still runs strong at ~21k. |

I believe all of the CVO Harleys come from the factory with syn. I broke my FXDX-T, Sporty 1200R, BMW R1200GS & now the Uly with Joe Minton's method (straight, flat road, no traffic, 30-60 mph in 3rd gear WOT, "0" throttle back to 30, times 10 cycles all in 3rd, vary the RPM & NEVER overheat motor for 1,000 miles). Also, changed oil (Dyno) at 25 & 500 miles. Switched to syn @ 1,000 miles on all (will on the Uly when finish B/I) & NONE of them used a drop of oil between changes. John |

All Ducati's and Triumphs come from the factory with Synth. all Porsche and Corvettes as well as some Mercedes also come with it. |

The last two times I had a dealer doing work on my '02 sporty's tranny (1st rivet on clutch basket broke and detent spring 2nd time). I told the tech's to put syn3 back in it. They said they would not recommend it(two different dealers). That it was too slippery. I like oil that is slippery that sticky stuff just doesn't seem right. I started with syn3 at 25K and now have 82k with no problems. Kevin |

Syn at 1K.. All is well. Who in the world would listen to a HD tech on oil. They just converted to Syn two years ago, joining THE REST OF THE PLANET> Red Line 20w-50 is pretty solid stuff. |

I decided to go with Redline Sync. Shifts are even cleaner but have noticed no difference in the fan running. Also, the tech talked me into a Drummer by firing up his Thunderbolt. Needless to say...it's on order. The fun continues. |

I noticed that the Red Line 20W-50 has the highest shear strength of all the 20-50 oils. I think this bodes well for using it in the trans. |
