In Ottawa, Canada it got warm enough on Saturday to start the bike for the first time since I received the Stealth Drummer in January. Bike started on the first spin of the crank after 5.5 months in hibernation!! I got to say Kevin, you did great job with the pipe. I love the sound of the Stealth. It is really something, especially at idle. When I went for my first ride on the bike this afternoon, I got a bit of a surprise with some weird noise in my helmet. The noise is something like if I were in a car with a sound system connected directly to the battery, and you hear the electrical noise of the engine reving... The noise starts at about 2000 rpm and continues and increases in pitch all the way up to red line. It is very difficult to drive. There must be something to do to stop that "electrical" noise. Anybody else heard that noise? I was wearing ear plugs too!! Any advice? Thanks | ||

Put the stock muffler back on. | ||

Can't put the stock muffler back on as it was "transformed" into a Drummer!! I will borrow another helmet to see if I can feel a difference in noise pitch. If the whether cooperates. | ||

I have the same type noise on 2 of my bikes that have White Brothers exhaust that wasn't there with stock exhaust, but they run better. Tried the helmet change, hope it works better for you. | ||

Huh. Do you hear the noise when you are not wearing the helmet? A friend of mine had his Harley get a short off of one of the spark plug wires that made some weird noises but the bike also ran like ka ka. There was also a burning electrical smell from the wire. Try pulling the seat off and look for any loose wires, connections or melted plastics. I have heard the oil pump gear make some crazy noises (again not on a Buell but on a friends Harley) and the transmission will will make bad sounds if it doesnt like the fluid or is low. Is this sound coming from the helmet itself? Wind noise from the vent? Very strange eh? | ||

if it sat that long and you didnt run it, i would make sure you check ( or change ) all of the fluids, i am sure there is some moisture in there somewhere, maybe you are getting some gear whine, i mean in a car, the electrical noise comes from the speaker, so i doubt it is an electrical problem. i would check the fluids for sure. | ||

After a spirited ride, I always hear sirens!  I look around only to see no lights or LEO's, happens every time. Fast&Loose. NUTS | ||

I wish Buell would pick up Kevin to make a full line of race pipes and products for them. (Course, he does just fine as it is now...) | ||

try riding with your helmet off....see if you can localize the sound & where it's coming from. Since there's nothing electrical in the helmet, electrical interference from the bike cannot be the source. A good ride for 60 minutes should cook off any moisture in the fluids. Also, check the air vents in the helmet.... are they closed or partially closed...this could be the source. Lastly, try electro-shock-therepy. |
