I just joined the Buell crowd and bought a leftover 03 XB9R. I will probably be asking a few questions until I get to know the beast. I get a slight thump, thump from the front brake at low speeds. Coming down from 60-70 it seems fine, but from 25-35
I get a thump. I seems that the rotor is a floater, so is that it, or have my pads just not bedded in yet?

Thanks,

John

I had the same issue. It went away after a few hundred miles

Have you checked your stem to make sure that your steering head bearings arn't loosening up. Would explain the thump at low speeds.

Thanks for the quick responses. No, it is definitely not steering headbearings. It is a click (thump) from the brake area. It seems to brake fine, so I will continue on and see if it goes away once the brakes are fully bedded in, it has a whopping 50 miles on it now.

I had something similar happen. They replaced the front brake rotor bushings under warranty and bango, no more noise.

Mine clicks at low speeds (5-10 mph), I haven't noticed any problems yet with mine, but since you are under warranty why not have them check it out.

My brake click's most of the time, but usually is more evident when hot.
I was told this was normal by tech when it had its first service.

I get the same as Interex2050. I can hear the noise but can't feel any play. Only in the wet????? I can find nowt wrong so I guess it's OK.

Recently I've noticed a slight thump or click, mainly at lower speeds from my front brake on my Uly (6800 mi.). The rotor looks fine & the brake works great other than that. I'll be keeping an eye on it.

When I took delivery of my 05 Firebolt it made the same noise. The dealer said give it time it should go away. So I got out the service manual and simulated a front pad change. One of the caliper bolts was so tight I had to beat it loose with a rubber mallet. After I got it back together the noise was gone. My guess for my bike was that they over-torqued the caliper on the line.

"I get a slight thump, thump from the front brake at low speeds". Had that on mine. researched this site. Per advice re- torqued the head stem/steering bearing according to the Service Manual specs & problem solved. Was an easy job

Many, many miles later got a pulsating from the front brake. I researched this site. Was advised it was glazed pads. Replaced the front pads with Lyndall Gold racing pads per recommendation. Followed the brake in procedure exactly ...problem solved...
