OK, here we go again. I need some tires for the 'ol XB. I have an '03 9S and don't particularly care for the tip in tendencies of the stockers. I'm going to replace them with either Dunlop D220's or Michelin Pilot Roads. Yes, yes I know, they are sport touring tires. I want longer life and had a great experience with 220's on my Y2K VFR800. I don't do as much aggressive riding as I used to and may take a 2500 mile trip this summer on the XB. Does anyone have any experience with either tire on their XB? I know the profiles are different and the handling may change a bit (for the better I hope, not that it's bad, I just want a more neutral turn in). I am also open to other brands with a long lasting tire. The CityX tires seem to be pretty good I hear. Thanks. Ride safe.

It has been mentioned on one of the tire threads that Pirelli is giving you the front if you buy a rear diablo strada.
That is the Pirelli ST tire. the z6 Metzler usually gets good reviews too.

I just went to the Diablo website and it made no mention of the give away. Is this recent? I remember them doing this last year. Does anyone have any experience with the Diablo Strada? It seems everyone like the Pirelli's on the CityX.

What do you like about the Pilot Roads? How does the handling change? Thanks.

I am running a set of the Strada's right now. So far I am happy with the feel. I came off of Pilot Powers and thought I would not waste any more money as I barely used any of the sidewall before the center went square. I like the raised ridge of the Strada in the center. I got @5000 from the rear of my Pilot Power and am hoping for at least 8k out of the Strada rear.
Diablobrian, if I hadn't paid "cost" for my set I'd be pretty pissed right now. That sight does not say how much the rear is gonna cost though. I know MSRP for a rear is like $180+ $25 shipping and that's the price just about anyone can buy them for. NUTS

They stick, and have I've had fair mileage results out of them. I'm on my second front and third rear Pilot Road. I really didn't have any issues with the OEM tires other than tread life. Although after switching the Michelins I did a day leading demo rides on bikes from the Buell demo truck. They all had stock tires. I did notice how the rears on them felt a little squirmy

My bikes rear tire history
OEM 2100 miles
Pilot Power 3300 miles
Pilot Road 7100 miles
Pilot Road 6500 miles.
Current Pilot Road.

I've been through 2 D220's now. Grip in all weather is good and I've gotten 4400 and 4000 miles out of each. I have a Pilot Road to go on in a couple days but from what I gather from everyone else on this site for mileage this will be my last Dunlop.

I've been running Pirelli Diablos, and if I was looking for ST tires I'd be on that Strada giveaway in a second! In the other thread, one poster said he got both ends for under $150 using the giveaway!

Any comments on handling regarding the Pilot Roads, Strada's, or D220's? Thanks.

I LOVE the Diablo Stradas. I jumped on the promotion. I bought my rear from American Motorcycle Tire for $130 (tax and shipping included) and with the $25 shipping fee Pirelli charges you for the "free" tire, that comes to a grand total of $155 for the set.

Can't beat that!

Well, I went and bought a rear Diablo Strada today. I'll get the paperwork in first thing in the morning. I'm looking forward to the ride. How long does it take to get your front tire?
