When I found out it was ready, I left work early and my brother helped me go get it in his truck. The service guy was nicer in person and rolled the bike outside for me. Just as I was feeling guilty for not buying any service, I notice a part lying on top of the transmission case! So I pick it up and walk back into the service and showed him what I found and he took it and quickly went to get the tech who worked on it. He is a nice guy too, and embarrassed, because it is the bottom spacer for the rear fuel tank mount that he had off to do the throttle stop recall!! He took care of it for me, but I am now glad I decided to just do everything myself. I Soooo wanted to ride it home, it had to be about 62F, but I had to meet my brother there and I had no way to get my Jeep home if I rode. So I was only able to ride it around the parking lot. Man I am going to love this bike  but I already have respect for it. It is a completely different ride for me and I haven't ridden for a couple of months- no sense doing anything stupid! We unloaded it in my driveway and my neighbors, who ride too and saw us pull in, came out as soon as they heard it running. 3 guys, one woman, and her little girl were all like  She sure is pretty! Winter is going to return with a vengeance now that I have it home, but that's ok, I'm so busy with the kids Feb. vacation and work, that April is (luckily) going to come up very quickly for me! Thanks, it only has 5,150 miles or so! I already found a CF rear hugger on ebay. Does anybody know whether the nutserts on the swingarm are SAE or metric? | ||

dont get an EBAY CF setup, they are crap, i ordered a tank cover from teh guy that is selling that stuff, and sent it back. | ||

thanks for the warning tsi, the hugger I bought is gen-u-ine Buell  weights about as much as a sheet of paper and is real pretty. I'll mount it tomorrow after I figure out what bolts to get...... | ||

if memory serves, they are 1/ X 20 easy to take one with ya though, just to make sure Stainless allens look nice there | ||

Scott, Wow, looks like a new one. Sweet bike. Another upgrade to consider is to change to the 2001/2002 shifter. The kit costs about $100. I've also seen it posted here that you can get almost the same results by changing out the stock plastic bushings in the existing shifter for bronze; American Sport Bike sells those. | ||

Thanks guys, I'm obviously in the honeymoon phase, but I spent a lot of time here and on ATC before I bought, so I think my eyes are wide open! Of course having almost endless technical data available and some of the most enthusiastic bunch of characters online played a big part in my decision too! Thanks bomber, I wasn't sure if they would come out without destroying and didn't have time for a closer look! 1/4-20 it is! Whodom I love the look of the stock linkage so I will be looking for the mods to make it as good as it can be. Jersey thunder, back at you brother I just starting my 2nd Guinness! | ||

You may like the look of the stock linkage but just shift one with the upgraded linkage. Much better. | ||

You don't need to change the shift linkage, replace the nylon bushings behind the footpegs with the bronze ones from American Sportbike, it will shift just as good as the new and improved/expensive if not better. (From the looks of your bike I wouldn't be surprised if the original owner hasn't already installed them.) ENJOY! | ||

As expected, winter has returned to NH with a vengeance last night and today-it's been cold and very windy/ We luckily had power but no phone or cable until now! I don't think this bike has the bronze bushing upgrade as I already noticed a lot of side to side slop in it. Since it is now in a very cold barn, I haven't had much chance to really get to know it yet. when the time comes, I want to change all of the fluids, put the improved exhaust mount on, check for/install improved primary tensioner, put bronze shift bushings in and spend some quality time in the saddle. I have a relatively short commute (25-30 minutes), but mornings can be cold here in the spring- I have good gear, but am considering grip heaters to increase my odds of taking it to work in the morning..... Those nylon bushings only cost $1 and last for about 10,000 miles. One more thing: The frame paint wil start to get chewed up behind the peg and it will start to make you miss shifts. I suggest that while you're in there, you scrape off the paint to the bare metal behind the peg. | ||

This is absolutely true. The bronze bushing kit costs a lot less than an updated shifter and makes the older shifter work as precisely as the updated one. The earlier "boomerang" shifter is also a lot less susceptible to low-side damage with usually just the toe-peg breaking off (easy and inexpensive to replace). Also, if you use peg risers to gain cornering clearance, the shifter's pivot point will stay in relation to the relocated peg. | ||

While it's true the nylon bushings last 10,000 miles and more and only cost about a buck, they have far more side play when new than the bronze ones ever* get (I've seen bronze ones with + 75,000* miles)and never shift as good as the bronze. The nylon ones I've seen with a couple of thousand miles on them have more moves than MC Hammer did 20 years ago. | ||

Scott - Good to see another relatively local guy on here. I recall seeing that bike for sale. Nice looking ride, it should bring many smiles to your face when you get a chance to really ride it. Hey I'm back from a couple of days of skiing with the kids $35 for the bronze bushings is probably money well spent, fluids and exhaust upgrades 1st though... Thanks Griff, yours look great too. I live right by the RR Bridge in Newfields, and for anybody who has been through town at least once before and still gets pulled over, well you get no sympathy here!
