That black, Cat Woman plastic around the headlights on the Firebolt has started to tarnish and is now grey. Can it simply be painted with black semi-high gloss protective paint, or do I have to replace them? Can't replace them without buying a new fairing, or so I was told. If I can paint them, what type of paint should I use? |

Yes, you can paint them but leave them on the bike as they will break trying to get them off. You can get them by themselves without buying the whole fairing I think they are about 30.00 each. |

You can get them out if you are really careful. They are attached with double sided foam tape (don't know what it's called exactly). You just have to pull with very light even pressure all the way around. If you do break it, you can use super glue to put it back together then sand it, and once it's painted, no one will know. I speak from experience. Three times. |

I treat mine with Mother's "Back to Black". Seems to help condition the plastic and keeps them looking pretty good. (Message edited by gowindward on February 18, 2006) |

Snack, my Firebolt's bezels looked pretty sad too. I found about Adams VRT (Vinyl, Rubber, Tire) dressing from my Corvette friends. It's like a moisturizing cream that can restore faded black plastics, black wrinkle paint and rubber parts to like new condition and it's a UV protectant. I used it on the headlight bezels, plastic switchgear, turn signal housings, rubber trim pieces, black part of chin fairing, belt guards and hugger. It leaves the parts with a semi-flat sheen and smells good too. Adams has other first class products for you detail freaks that are the best, IMHO. |
