OK, I've already beat myself up about this, and I am coming to you guys with my tail between my legs and my head hung in shame, so without further introduction here is my dilemma:

I was attempting to drill out that plug in my carburator that hides the idle mixture screw and well, ah, I drilled out the wrong plug. I drilled out this thing that is next to where the remote idle cable hooks to the carb. It is a chamber of some sort. Can I just JB Weld the hole and we all forget this ever happened?

If the fines are in effect, I owe some big money.

I wouldnt JB weld a carb. Its too damn cold for me to go out to the garage & look at one of my spare carbs to see where you drilled into either. You can get stock CV carbs at swap meets for $25. I have bought several that way.

Kdraw1... The UJM mechanic buddy of mine repaired dirtbike cases with JB Weld and said it holds great. In fact he indicated it held up better then a real weld (which he found weakened the cases).

A link posted here a while back show some porting work done with JB Weld as well, with careful surface prep. It would make me nervous, but he had claimed to have very good luck with it.

So it would probably work fine so long as you had surfaces clean, and that JB Weld is fuel proof (which I think it is).

Buy like Dyna said, finding a replacement carb at a swap meet or on ebay is pretty easy and may ultimately be less work.

Just a few datapoints. I am not an expert.

John Doe-

I know what plug you're talking about. It covers up a drilled passage that leads to, among other places, the float bowl vent at the front of the carb, right? I believe your carb is fine as long as you close up that hole you poked.

I've in fact JB Welded something in place of that plug for an oddball project. It's held just fine so far.

Here are some obvious statements: Make sure EVEYTHING is clean and devoid of metal shavings created during the drilling process. Make sure you clean up that spot properly before your apply the epoxy.

See if you can clean out the rest of the hole, get a large, short screw. Lock tight it and screw it in. Or JB weld. Make sure you get the qwick set stuff so it dosen't drip down to the float bowl.

Thanks for the help everyone. I still can't believe I did that. When I purchased the bike, it was bone stock. I didn't think any carb work had been done to it so when I saw the idle adjustment screw, I thought I was looking at the wrong area of the carb. I've learned a couple of things from this:

1. Always double check the manual
2. People have mixed feelings about JB Weld
3. Weightifting in my garage before letting the gas fumes go away will give you one bad f*n headache.

Thanks again, I'll keep you posted.
BTW I've recently decided on a custom paint job- I'd like some criticism (man, am I opening myself up on this board).

White background
Red blood splatter paint over the white
some "hidden" skulls and tormented faces in some of the 'blood' droplets.
I also plan on recovering my seat red and powdercoating the frame red.

I did a little photo suite work just to see what it would look like, and it looked cool as hell (I thought).

I'm gonna try to get out this weekend to get an estimate. I'm figuring somewhere in the range of 1 to 1.5K.

I ALMOST made the same mistake. There wasn't a plug covering the idle screw on my S3T. I had the drill in hand and almost started. Something told me that I wasn't were I should be. Upon further inspection I found a hole with a screw deep inside. In the meantime, I was on the phone with customer service at DynaJet. They confirmed I was looking at the right place. I immediately went and bought a service manual to divert any further senior moments (and I'm not even a senior :))
